Were you aware of this method or not? I hope it helps some of you dial in your light distance while using the dimmer I know many of you look to make your grow room as efficient as possible; using the dimmer on your grow light is certainly one way to reduce energy consumption Cheers! Read the leaves 10 mins before dark if they pray they didnt get enough light Increase until 10 mins before the leaves are flat you gave enough and their ready to rest Comment from : cheiftain |
Its bloom gets me I hear week 3 to 8 should be high as you have without stress If your plants are praying at lights off time they need more light If they cup or taco they need less until before lights out your leaves should be paralell to the floor Tune that in Comment from : cheiftain |

doesnt inverse square law imply that at double the height the fall off is actually 1/4th or 25 the light? Comment from : WarningLowBattery |

Assuming you are using a light that produces more than you will need at the distance required for full coverage of the canopy, I would assume the use of the dimmer is to adjust the wattage output (aka electric bill) while still supplying the proper amount of light to the size/diameter of the canopy using height/distance to still maintain the light needed brbrBasically, if you can achieve the proper amount of light using distance and wattage while maintaining full coverage, you can save your self some cash on you electric billbrbrPlease pardon me I'm new to this, and I'm trying to learn as much as possible for the following year as recreational use in Ohio will most likely be here at the end of 2023 And I would much rather grow my own than pay whatever for who knows what, plus there is a certain satisfaction to knowing you can do this for your self Comment from : James Singleton |

Hello Chris, I unboxed my Vipar KS2500 and started my new grow At 25 inches and 25 percent Temp 75 and rh 66 percent The plants are about to be dumped today They stunted terribly It's August and I have not harvested one single auto plant I can't believe this What height do you have your light set atbrThanks Comment from : Mike I |
I really hope you answer my question, I have a cbg4000dm carambola with dimmer ,I'm a first time inside grower and the company is for shit on instructions!brI have a closet grow of 8 plants at 8 weeks old, how high should I have my lights for maximum growth at this stage and how the hell do I use the dimmer, again the company didn't give that info !!! Comment from : Jeff Bearden |
How would the ppfd calculation be affected if the distance was higher than 18"? Comment from : Jaemin Lee |

Thanks dude, very informative, straight to the point 👍🏻👍🏽👍🏿 Comment from : Spike J |

I would think the only reason to dim would be for heat, unless you have a huge light you may save a bitbrAnother thing about the Par meter I mentioned is that it calculates the DLI alsobrThe DLI going from Veg must match or exceed start of Flower Comment from : Pat Rey |
In the old days I use to teach friends to hang your Temp/Hum gauge at canopy height and mark the string at different distances so as the plant gets taller you can maintain the distancebrNow with a par meter I tie a string to the light, and mark downward the Par levels brMAJOR POINT: it's not linear The distance between 1400 and 1300 is much narrower than 800 to 700 Comment from : Pat Rey |
Mr grow-it, b4 I ask my question just wanna say thanks for all other stuff you enlightened me on everything I thought I knew over 10years of using coco coir and loads of other stuff believe me we all think we are master growers but education is like time ,it never ends ,thanks m8 brmy question :I recently purchased SPIDERFARMER SE-3000, can I still flower my plants lowering light closer but turning down dimmer until i get the range I want above canopy like 900 ppfd brbrI am sure you understand the question and i would be ever so grateful for you response brbrAgain thanks for the pod casts, q/a brand much more Truly appreciated Peace Brother Comment from : peter johnson |

If you have two lights that will cover a 5x5 (XS4000Ss)and want to only grow say 4 autos on one side of the tent can I take both lights and bring them down 2xs closer together and reduce by half? Will this generally provide the same range of par? For example I grew a full tent of plants last run and had the lights around 20-25" through bud at 80 power per light with great results I'm wondering if I only want to grow 4 on one side of the tent can I run the lights close together width wise and around 12" from the plants at 40 power? Comment from : Daddy fix it |

Just started using mars hydro TS1000 my gelato auto went into flower at 3 weeks , what caused this ? brThank you Comment from : Heik |
Thanks Chris for the info and video…Since most growers can’t afford an Apogee Par meter ($500) we have bought a Lux meter and use a math formula to get a rough estimate or guesstimation…have tried phone apps but still a guessHope a cheaper reliable paar meter will eventually hit the market Comment from : Allen Williams |
The dimmer percentage dial is weighted so that 50 means 50 less light In other words it take into account the inverse square law to give a linear graduation of light Comment from : mark rigg |
There is a very good iOS app called Photone that will allow you to get accurate data without spending the rent Comment from : Ti Man |

You explained it great !! For sure answering the questions I had about distance and par Thank you 🙏 brHappy Growing 🌱😀 Comment from : Pamela Johnson |

What if U running 2 lights eg me with 2 ts1000 mars hydro in a 2x4 does the crossing lighting go up linear or exponential if it says run 1 ts1000 at 100 is that the same as running 2 at 50 Comment from : Jerard Groves |
Will height matter if you have the optimal ppfd range? My grow tent is getting to hot and was thinking of lowering the dimmer and height to cool up my tent Comment from : Elvin |
the dimmer percentage and height is irrelevant Just measure the flux and make sure DLI is withing the required range Everyone is relying on dimmer percentages and heights and they havent even checked the PAR Im over hearing "it has to be at 50 and 36 inches" with no mention of flux density or DLI Comment from : Lucid Euphoria |
thanks! Comment from : Rebecca Girdner |

I have a question and that is when dimming the lights down does that effect the temperature in any way? Comment from : tim harris |

WTTGT says to put the light at the top of the tent and leave it there Adjust your light 25 50 75 and finally 100 last two weeks how off is this because he has a lot followers who do this method w results So what’s up? Comment from : Kevin |

The bottom line is you need to get a watt meter or line splitter to use with your ohm meter to determine how accurate the dial is Comment from : Anthony Romano |
I bought the power meter because of your info, and it takes so much guess work off…thank you Chris…wow Comment from : Kay Fiedler |

I needed this video man thank you I've got some extra questions brIn my case, plants grew too tall and I can't move the lights further away I am using the SF1000 and the company provides a chart for 30cm distancebrAs you showed us on the video you come pretty close to half the ppfd in half the power Does the same rule apply to distance? If we get 1000pppf in the center at 30cm will I get 2000pppf in the center at 15cm? Have you put that to the test? Also the charts are for 60x60cm space and I am using 40x40cm Does smaller space raise ppfd? Your answer is appreciated brother! Comment from : Off-The-Top-Of-The-Dome |
Great minds think alike I actually emailed LED Grow Light Depot and asked them if reducing the power by x percent would lower the ppfd likewise and they said yes it would It comes in handy when I run out of ceiling to know how much to dial the light down since I can't raise the light (or afford the $600 bucks for the meter) Good topic Comment from : Ellis JK |
Well you can buy a light meter for $10 why don't you give us the conversion chart on that Comment from : Robert Threm |

Very nicely done my man, thanking you kindly for a simple piece of sense 😉👍 Comment from : Skunk Punch |
One thing to mention: The efficiency of lights tends to go down as your turn up the power So the lower the power, more efficiency, sometimes Obviously different designs will have different efficiency curves If your light has that efficacy range you could theoretically account for it if you really wanted to be precise Comment from : Daily Driven Supply Co |
So helpful - thanks Comment from : HedL!nes |

Question Chris My plants grew to 5 inches from my light, Viparspectra XS1500 I'm out of room Should I put my light to 50? I got 4 plants in my 2x2 6 weeks into flower Comment from : James Sztorc |
No 1 ever talks about when the dimmer goes bad and your light is flickering if you have this happen Check your dimmer I thought my ballast was going bad HLG / mean well Comment from : Scottie Timmons |
