$134000 for the XS4000 and $53500 for the XS1500 I'll use my 4 foot T8 fluorescents for now Peppers and tomatoes have grown quite well with this setup so far Comment from : ned cramdon |
I have T8 and viperspectra P1000s They each have there uses The distance from the LED to the plant is no closer than 12 inches without potentially damaging leaves Fluorescents won't damage leaves, you can change/mix spectrums and are normally at 4 inches A component to consider is the invers law of light Simplified formula is when distance from a light source doubles the PAR is 1/4th So at the recommended heights florescence are roughly 3325 PAR and the LED would be 2080 1500 to 2000 PAR is a sunny summers day Comment from : guido70 |

Great video, now one question, Will this led light work on a timer And what timer would you recommend to use with it Comment from : Lettuce Bee Sustainable |

I wanted to pop in real quick and confirm what Mike found out from my own experience: for the past 5 years I have been doing my peppers and tomatoes in my basement under 2 tube 4' T8 with daylight bulbs, and I always had to keep the bulbs 2" (5cm) from the plants in order to not have leggy growth Last year for Black Friday I picked up some 4' LED lights (42w 1000w equiv, about $20 each at the time) and my peppers and tomatoes this year are more stocky and leafy than I have ever grown also because the lights are 1ft away from the plants I don't have to adjust the chain suspending the light fixtures every week like I had to for my T8s, and because the plants are so stocky I may not have to adjust the light at allbrIts an investment up front for sure but if these bulbs really do last 10 years its going to end up being cheaper than the T8s as the T8s need to be replaced every 2-3 years and its $10 for a 2 pack atm Additionally not having to adjust the lights all the time takes another of hassle out of my already busy spring so I can 100 recommend upgrading if you can afford it brI still have 2-3 weeks before I start hardening them off (Chicago area), but it very well may be that they will harden off faster because they are used to so much more light; have to wait and see on that though Comment from : Bob Newkirk |

HPS 4 life, lol Comment from : DJ TechnoBooM |
Fluorescent lights will be phased out at some point soon because of their mercury content There will be no choice but to use LED lights at that point No sense in investing in yesterday's technology Comment from : Planet Mojo |

T 5 would have been a better comparison to L E D Comment from : mindhunter |

Do you have any videos in the past of propagating plants? I’m ready to try my hand and my neighbor has blackberries Comment from : Garden Girl |
I'd like to see you do a real world test of the two types of bulbs and how well they do when starting seeds Note that I keep my bulbs within an inch or two of the plant leaves Comment from : Tom Terrific |
Thank you so much for that, I am going to go get me a grow tent and some lights 🤣😆😀😁🙃😊 Comment from : Lo Be |
Newbie gardener here A bit embarrassed to ask But, how do plants grow just with artificial light vs sun I thought that the sun put off nutrients as well as light Comment from : Garden Girl |
I’m doing my own experiment this year: for $30 (hobby gardener), what is the better option on Amazon, and it’s overwhelmingly fluorescent You just can’t get enough lumen power of LED on a budget Also, your seedling will still try to reach under LED band/b the green of their leaves look sickly Just one day under fluorescent makes such a world of difference in their color Comment from : Melissa Sullivan |
You rock Mike! Keep it up we all love your videos! Comment from : Nate Welch |
An excellent video What are the other 4 lamps that are hanging with the LED unit? Are they on as well? Comment from : malcolmsplace |

I always wondered about the difference in these Thanks for clearing that up! I bought 6000k led lights for my both my Detolf IKEA greenhouse cabinets and my plants love them They are putting out leaves like crazy Thought about going with florescents but glad I didn't now Great video! Comment from : Grant Greetings |
I just checked that light on Amazon and it was $269 Comment from : Arvella Taratuta |
You could turn down your LED's to 30 watts so you cut you electric bill down to less than a quarter of the fluorescents and still get better growth Those LED's are definitely the way to go Comment from : MrWhitetail |
Same “effect” not affect” Comment from : C Turner |
What is the par rating of full sun vs full shade vs the xs1000? Comment from : Robert Gibbons |
No one keeps their fluorescent lights that far away from their plants I still prefer fluorescents for seedlings but keep them 2" above the plants not 5 feet I've tried using LED for seedlings and they just don't do as well I think the heat from the fluorescents helps the seedlings grow I can fit a lot more plants in the same amount of space using fluorescents since I can have 4 shelves of plants with 4 10x20 trays on each shelf With LED you can't fit that much in a grow tent I do like to use LED's on pepper plants once the plants are much bigger and temps start to warm up in my grow room I would like to see a comparison of growing the same set of seedlings under both lights but with the fluorescents as close to the plants as they should be Comment from : Gapeys Grub |
