I watched this video I'm a licensed contractor simply looking to separate from the crowd and be articulate with architectural aspects to help bring vision and inspiration to clients unlike no other contractor or cookie-cutter creating architect My dreams are not crushed at all with this video Matter of fact, watching 30X40 workshop, using some concepts I've put in place, I was able to land a very big 5 figure project Don't let someone's video opinion crush anything but your negativity to keep moving forward You don't have to be an architect to do architectural things Articulate the market and you will learn to be more open minded about things and you will prevail

On top of all these reality of Architecture in modern society, what frustrates me is the fact that Architecture is also been taught wrong in many school Most school focus on constantly exploring the new possibilities to construct buildings differently, with the changes of technology, technique and material And that is just fine as the science of Architecture do have to improve as they do from the very beginning The frustration is that the emphasis and the pace of which this aspect of Architecture is been explored, greatly over weighs the fundamental principles of Architecture that should be truly exploited with great effort For God's sake, Architecture is of Delight, Firmness and Commodity A building with only firmness and commodity can't simply be called Architecture I am not saying there is not the slightest delight in contemporary building, but what is presented is not even close to enough, the Aesthetic aspect or rather the Artistic aspect of Architecture is simply not being EXPLOITED If you were to say that many building form is great, ok, first they are not, secondly, form is merely one small component that makes up the whole of visual pleasure, what happened to the element of color? With thousands of combinations of hue in the world, it seems that we can only recognize so few What about the texture of not just material itself but that of human crafting Most importantly, any building should inspire and aspire I don't want to go into too much here, but form over function is misunderstand, and concept is not always necessary What is important for most building is the Atmosphere it generates, the feeling and the aspiration it imparts to the beholders The 3 Principle or rather element of Architecture should be all present in a Architecture for it to be complete Architecture must be Perfect from Macro Composition down to the most minuscule detail, and that although Delight, Commodity and Firmness are all equal, but Delight is the one that should be placed above all, but all other must also follow through Just let me Ask you what Architecture is Architecture when it can't even bring visual/ Sensual/ Psychological pleasure which is truly the only element that differs a engineering product of a building from that which is from an Architect And Ornamentation is not a sin, Ornamentation is a part of the the Art that which makes Architecture, it may not apply to all form of building, but It is a product a skill obtained through exploration in the higher level of Architecture All in all, the stand alone branch of Science and Art are all constantly trying to improve, yet we seemed to be only applying the best of science but not also to incorporate the best of what Art has to offer But again, Architecture does reflect the passage of time, as all Architecture were product with their uniquely intended symbolism which conforms to the cultural and society mindset and belief In the modern era, with the norm being to seek a universal truth that which is neutral to all, that which holds not particular meaning to all, that which will not offend any, of course minimalism and plane Architecture will be the case But if God allows I will bring back an era of the Golden Age of Architecture, a new quality of Architecture comparable to the greatest of the past, in quality not style

The world needs architects And there are certainly worse choices you could make That said - I found this video to be spot on What the video did not touch on are the endless deadlines and endless pressure to deliver projects faster and cheaper That's when your busy - and when you're not busy you're not getting paid As the video said, I value the education I've received as a architect, the ideas and many of the people I've been exposed to but after 28 years of practice - I'm going back to school and changing careers The rewards just aren't worth the struggle for me

I started studying architecture, whithout knowing all the "not design stuff" BUT I still loved it at the end To design somthing that works you need all the knowladge of the things that are related to it, otherwise you would be designing fiction If you like building stuff in general its a great career You learn a lot about the design process and administration and project managment of course, all that is needed to build a successfull (whatever thing you want), no body designs without knowing how to build it, that means learning all the boring stuff, but in the end you really appreciate it

Wow based on comments I thought I was gonna give up lol Well since Im now studying on the college of hotel management and had learn about business and dealing with people (not very much tho, but maybe I know more than I realise lol) I think this college could actually be helpful Im gonna try applying on the architecture next year, wish me luck guys :)brbtw I still cant draw really good (Im not bad tho) and Im 22 years old, so if there is anyone who thinks is old or not good at drawing, math etc, dont give up and keep going forward :)
