I just found your video and man, did you bring back memories for me In the 1980's I mapped caves in Botetourt County with some buddies We came across the old iron ore mines just under the BRP stretching from Troutville to Buchanan and explored many of them There is one out there that takes the cake above all the rest Thanks for the jump back in time I got my old photos out and loved reliving my adventure Safe explring!

Very coolmake sure you atleast have an o2 meter and if oxy goes below 18 or you smell rotten eggs get outvery cool when you find rail with timbers!!!

If you ever decide to go back there’s two old ore carts still there One is tucked away in the back of the wet side and there’s another on the dry side in the top part of the workings I live in the area and visit a lot of these, gets addicting after a while 🔦

I live right near there, and I never knew those were there The entrances you used, are those the ones pinpointed on google maps labeled "spec mines?" Gonna have to go check them out Also did you guys split off of the iron mines trail from the parkway? Thanks for sharing this!

Great video of your adventure into these mines! I've been in these a few times and they truly are an amazing piece of history that has largely been preserved due to how far off the beaten path these are Thanks for sharing I enjoyed watching every second of this!
