The first part is very convicting and challenging to me (no, I'm not saying what you're telling me is bad; it's actually good You're right that the devs deserve to be rewarded for their work) God knows, I'm guilty of not contributing money to OSS I have used; I really should start contributing because I like Blender, Inkscape and LibreOffice to name a fewbrbrAnd the topic of telemetry is really eye-opening It makes sense that a developer should know what hardware is being used for their programs If that's all they need to optimize their OSS or DE, it's not that unreasonable a request

if a company owns an open source software its less open source and more of a spyware as proven by audacity controversy brsome open source software performs as good as these premium over priced garbage im looking at you adobe theres no way im gonna pay 6049euros a month cause thats a lot of wasted money for an individual bryet again most software were open source till someone got the ownership and there always gaps in security compatibility and optimization except companies has the resources to do it but they either dont want to or dont care

@10:38 Yes, and it is perfectly in the user's right to not use itbr@11:29 You could use a survey, instead Telemetry can be use non-privacy invasive but would you trust someone you don't know? That's why telemetry is a privacy issue

I like KDE's approach on telemetry because it's clear what they'll collect and their intentions on doing sobrAlso, having the telemetry turned off by default is a good way to say "I respect your data and I'm friendly asking your help" The first time I saw these settings really amazed me

I wasn't aware of KDE's feedback option I turned it on (all the parameters) to help with the development People don't often realize that these statistics are supposed to help improve the software, not to "spy" on them
