That’s a fact and resources they need factories and resources Even development Comment from : Jared Santiago |
Don’t smash asteroids to to earth do it far distance not close Comment from : Jared Santiago |
2 years later and Elon is just another shit poster on twitter Comment from : frankinberries |
Elon musk may plan to mine asteroids after he reaches mars thats easier because most of the asteroids are found between the belt of mars and jupiter Comment from : Ranjit Menon |
SpaceX doesn't help humanity, it's an amusement park ride for rich people But asteroid mining would grately reduce environmental destruction by requiring less mining on Earth Comment from : Dark Waters |
China will beat Elon to it Comment from : Wick Hunter |
Very Dump Explanation! These not only Elon Musk who are doing space exploration Comment from : Kalpit Rathod |
I think mining the astroid belt from Mars would be more feasible Comment from : Adam D |
To solve our immediate problems we need to mine more on earth ASAP Maybe Elon doesn't want a future possibility to cause people to further shut down mining on Earth Comment from : TheGaussFan |
There is one very potent reason to mine asteroids rather than terrestrial metal deposits:brbrEnvironmental impacts from mining and refining Comment from : Physe |
Bit of a contradiction here Murry Musk doesn't need the money? Yet does need money for Mars? Also it didn't take 18 years to get people to the ISS and using that as a time line was a bit dumb I think Aanndd! What about the whole mini asteroid swallowing? Maybe unworkable but should have been mentioned I Like you bud but this one was a little poor Still like you though 🙂 Comment from : pen tell |
What about starship swallowing small ones And taking them back to earth I know there are challenges to that but they could be overcome Comment from : pen tell |
This video misses many important advantages of mining asteroids, he says it doesn't solve any problems but this is completely untrue, not only taking the environmental advantages but one of the biggest problems it would solve is diplomacy, yes the Earth has many resources but not all countries do, some are very concentrated in certain countries and constitute a national security problem for places like Europe and North America, he also doesn't mention the fact that we just attempted a coup in Bolivia, supported by Elon Musk by the way Comment from : silveregle08 |
Elon is an engineer? Since when? Comment from : heliocentric television |
Asteroid mining could supply a Martian colony and make it thrive Comment from : A sell |
I feel for you Elon You start a dream, you end with that dream If we all lived to be 1000 Years old, that would be a different story But even though Tech has no Time Frame, we do Comment from : Michael Marshall |
Of course it solves problems like mining on earth Comment from : Oskar Fichtner |
how about nations building the moon base together! a mean a moon ride would be exciting! Comment from : We Love You Father! |
There are reasons asteroid mining is hard but this isn't it brbr"Rockets can't use the atmosphere to slow down"brThe asteroid isn't pulling it down at 98 mls landing on an asteroid is as simple as navigatimg in orbit brbrAnd screw braking the rock apart in space, drag it bag to the moon and mine it there, or drop it in the ocean Comment from : Oliver Hobart |
work on your diction my friend, it is hard to understand what you are saying and for some reason, the automatic captions were saying very weird stuff Comment from : Me |
There are many good reasons to mine asteroids given the issues involved in obtaining elements that are restricted from geostrategic conflicts Comment from : Adam Myers |
Pfftt i already mine asteroids for a side hustle on the daily Comment from : TraditionalSalmon |
If they did this they wouldn't need to mine for battery metal's on earth one mine on a asteroid would be enough for hundreds of years Comment from : Joe |
Elon is not an engineer Asteroid mining, in the future could give us resources we could lose here on earth, saving environments, and making resource wars pointless Comment from : Ethan DeW |
It makes it so we don’t have to tear up the environment on Earth Comment from : OmegaPoint042 |
Colonies and mining on the moon makes the most sense Comment from : LightSource |
I think that if he did mine asteroids it would have the added advantage of stopping the need to mine here on earth which is extremely bad for the environment and is what he's all about right? It could dramatically decrease the price of producing items that are more effective when made in space and if they produced them next to the asteroid as well it would be even more cost effective Comment from : Mvp DJG |
Just pull the asteroids to the moon and work the mining there Comment from : Eleazar Hernández |
It makes it so the other three ideas don't become impossibly expensive because if you're the one that brings that stuff home you're allowed to use it in your other companies or sell it to your other companies add a cheaper rate Comment from : Go gameing |
A troll destroyed the captions Comment from : Alex Li |
Asteroid mining has a lot of purpose for the geopolitical playing field and could prevent many wars to come as rare metal resources would not be based in nations This could be immensely beneficial for humanity If it is feasible? I don't know Comment from : Ludwig |
Just invent a tractor beam laser to pull the asteroids into orbit Comment from : Jonathan Moore |
Asteroid mining will benefit earth, because it will not pollute earth Earth mining is a very dirty process Comment from : Beyond Singularity |

Why would he want to bring the price of rare earth metals down if he can make tons of $$$ with the reduced supply Comment from : United States of Anonymous |
why can’t we mine the sun? Comment from : ashzole |
I love how positive people are about this idea, I believe sooner or later some startup will be doing this Comment from : Alberto Rodriguez |
You're a bit naive and seem like an Elon worshipper Who cares if he does it or not, someone has to because we can't sustain mining our own planet without destroying it There must be better videos and sound arguments out there on this topic, you're not it You even presented that Elon has enough money and no desire You have no idea how the rich and powerful think, at all, hence, naive Comment from : roush26 |
I highly disagree (the video is outdated though so I don't blame it) Asteroids have outrageous amounts of resources supplying the earth for quite a while This could be extremely beneficial for money, resources, and most importantly to help the environment How? Well, Mining can pollute air and drinking water, harm wildlife and habitat, and permanently scar natural landscapes Modern mines as well as abandoned mines are responsible for significant environmental damage throughout the West Instead of mining, something that pollutes the environment, we could be supplied with a ton of resources that people don't have to mine for anymore This could drastically stop mining because having resources people mine for are already with them Even mining the second time around makes the cost lower For someone to invest in asteroid mining they could finish the process with the moon's gravitational pull and other steps, gather the resources to use to go to space, or sell to re-profit Though the most important is to stop the waste of the environment, something Elon is trying to stop, but for some reason still, wont Comment from : Spoxcke |
If the Boring company is useful to you or anyone you know i dont know what to say to you man Comment from : Tiananmen Raid Boss JonLiao Xina |
The world debt levels would be too much for Elon to pay offbrbrAnd poverty is rampit in USA and most of the world 🌎 brbrElon must reconsider Comment from : Light Theory LLC |
follow the money branson, bezos and company those test flights werent just for commercial passenger sight seeing travel to space they are vying for the first and dominant mining tech transport technology commercially Comment from : Line Phantom |
Just a thought, but rovers don’t NEED fuel, they can use solar Albeit, very low because of distance from the sun Also, THE LOW GRAVITY GIVES AN ADVANTAGE FOR LANDING It requires less energy to leave, obviously, and is easier to burn into orbit around earth Comment from : Will Brown |
the asteroids are radioactive and any material taken to earth in large quantities will make another problem for humans Comment from : NY-MOTOPARTS EXPORT |
Just crash the asteroid into the moon and mine it there Jeez! Comment from : O P T I M U S P R I N C E P S |
The problem is, to build massive structures in space, getting the materials up there is difficult Mining the materials in space and building in space with them is easier and less chorosive to the planet Preserve what we have here and use what's out there Nuclear fusion energy is key Comment from : Jack Burgin |
If government pays for it, he and other companies will do it The incentive is not just monetary This tech will allow us to deflect asteroids in the future, and normalize living and working in space There are zero reasons to colonize Mars without figuring out how to thrive in space with just ships Comment from : BestLaidPlans |
your english prononciation is p00r Comment from : nassim bouhaouita |
what do u mean by asteroid mining is pointless a huge amount of pollution is caused by mining on earth and mass destruction of habitats and locals in mining locations Comment from : Anonymous |
This is crazy I am literally disapproving everything you say wrong every time he says something wrong it’s literally these are bullshit reasons why we can’t do it I swear to God my name is Benjamin Mason one day Comment from : Benjamin Mason |
Starship could land on an asteroid if one was viable same landing as the one planned for the moon, no need for a belly flop on landing Comment from : Oliver Mitro |
But we also know that Musk likes hard problems Oh well Not too worried about it There'll be so much economy-charging (I hope!) spin-off space related industries due directly and otherwise to Musk that it's a win-win regardless Comment from : Carl Lelandt |
Might be some high lithium containing asteroids out there -The existence of such asteroids are likely already known, studied/plotted, and tracked etc if any raw space resource had any feasibility for shipping from space to Earth, lithium is probably one of the top candidates, I would think, since it's lighter than aluminum Comment from : Carl Lelandt |
Even though, I think asteroid mining is necessary in anyway:brbr1) It would spare the Earth's environment and 0 carbon emission on the Earth Mining in the asteroids would help to replace mining in the earth as we seem to already take enough (or perhaps more than enough) resources on earth Take any more would likely hurt and harm the earth's ecosystem But some mining like salt is still a necessity as salt is pretty scarce in space as Earth is enrich with it (Mars does have salt as well but likely not as much)brbr2) Reduction of asteroids For asteroid mining would help to hallow out the asteroids that are consider to be a threat for the Earth and Mars For there are really large asteroids in the belt Besides Ceres (as it should be an outpost or a small colony) mining on the larger asteroids can help and likely reduce the chances that the Solar System had to face a planet destroying asteroid like the one happens 65 million years ago For mining those large ones would help to turn those giant ones into teeny little pieces, one by one at each timebrbr3) Foundation purpose There's plenty of asteroids that can be useful by turning them into an artificial space colony Likely can hold for over thousands or perhaps 10s of millions of people (depending on the size) All they had to do is mine from the inside out Extract as much minerals as they can and leave the core hollow and start to use steel-plates or concrete on the inside of the asteroid and add in some components in and on the asteroid and add in pressurize air and give the inside an ecosystem and make the asteroid twirl so it can create its own artificial gravity and that's when it will turn into a foundation of a space colonybrbr4) likely a 100k-10M years of resources I'm for recycling but asteroids did have plenty of useful materials that we can use for space explorations, colonization, water, etc Doing so would only decrease scarcity and give us all the materials we need like iron or copper or water or rare-earth metals and such brbr5) Economic stability and increase in opportunities Asteroid mining can increase jobs and also increase in financial gains Likely over thousands or perhaps billions of jobs be open Mars likely be using the asteroid materials as their own commodity Since Mars is the closest to the Asteroid belt Earth would be a 1# (perhaps the only trade planetary partner for now) and the Moon would have its purpose to become a Trade Outpost (Which too create jobs) As the Earth likely will trade Martian commodity with food surplus Since doing agriculture on Mars will be a struggle do with having a barren environment As mining would not only do good for the Earth but more importantly for the Martians Comment from : Okami Jubei |
Asteroid mining will definitely happen in the future, but it will be to build larger spaceships Imagine how large of a spaceship we could build if we didn't have to pull it out of earth's atmosphere to get to outer space! We are a long ways away from that, though Comment from : Troy Jenkins |
the way you end your sentences sounds like you're whining/complaining Comment from : Lord FLako |
This guy always raises his voice at the end of his sentences and it’s triggering LMAOOO Comment from : Schmieb |
The only real problem I have with this video is he keeps saying it's too expensive to pull off, while simultaneously talking about how much money is in it Seems a little odd but ok I get that you'd need a fortune to get started but it sounds like you'd make even more backbrbrNow that's not talking about Elon himself I get he doesn't need more money and he's got his hands full with marsbrbr I'm just saying it vid itself sounds odd saying it's pointless because it costs too much money and all it gets you is tons of moneybrbrAnyway, we'll have to go this route eventually for the extra resources which we'll need in the future to build out there in space when we finally really get out there Comment from : Sam Gross |
i mean it would honestly break the economy i mean you suddenly send a ton of rare minerals to the planet all of a sudden its not so rare lol Comment from : RagingJoJo |
Elon doesn't think asteroid mining is viable but he thought that the Vegas loop was a great idea Comment from : Count Binface Global President for #2024 |
I think there may be a purpose besides monetary gain; assuming we find a way to mine efficiently, this could be useful for protection against near earth asteroids Comment from : Nick Parmi |
Elon Musk refuses because he,'s not interested the freak is this video? Comment from : DamslettesSIMP |
this is all based on assumption of putting people on astroids to farm resources to bring to earth When an army of drones who don't need life support can extract resources to build more drones, space bases and start of dyson spheres to harness suns energy to eventually master our own solar system Comment from : ivory genious |
another problem is viruses we wouldn't know if it was in a rock you never know if there is one in a asteroid Comment from : Damiin1011 |
Don’t be bloody stupid he hasn’t got the brains to work it out You don’t think he really comes up with ideas do you? Comment from : Gareth de-Witt |
Spacex has enough money alreadyno need to do anything newoh dear Comment from : darthex0 |
This fool: But, what in the world does asteroid mining accomplish?brWell kid, there's plenty Comment from : Fulcrum |
Sadly, this guy does not have all the information Also, no one should trust Bloomberg This guy is getting information from them about asteroid mining, but Bloomberg says that asteroid mining is impossible It is possible today to mine asteroids It's just that no one is doing it Comment from : Fulcrum |
Asteroid mining totally SHOULD be illegal Comment from : Turtle Squad Boss |
has anybody tried playing the subtitles on this video?!?!? it's ridiculous and has nothing to do with the video completely random words and even switches to other languages with odd characters HIGHLY reccomend trying it without laughing Comment from : DAEMENOTH DIABLOS |
I don't hear of any cat girls on astroids Comment from : Michael Taylor |
I think the solution with mining is to have the asteroid of our choice orbit around the sun, close enough to melt Maybe a series of close detonation can help the asteroid make its way toward the sun, hopefully we can measure what speed and what angle it should approach the sun, in order to get it close enough to melt it thoroughly, if timed right we can have it get close enough to earth to orbit earth Comment from : Alldo Whoareiz |
We will conquer thisWe always conquer Comment from : Chanpreet Singh |
Bringing quintillions of dollars worth of materials would create rapid and severe economic inflation Comment from : bmzX£Q8QsSdi8H9O7O |
0:45 Turn on the subtitles Comment from : Sam Chen |
Use a ai and soler or nuclear powerd and use a miner that looks like a upside-down pyramid and set uo refineries on the moon making it easy to assemble craft in space its only difficult because the world lack the vision we wont help this planet till its to late Comment from : reugras reu |
This youtube guy is useful for only negative storiesbrHis voice and emotion suits for some misery explanation Comment from : ravi chandra reddy |
This is just a motivational video for me to do this challenge Comment from : C5H10 |
WoW! What a long list of NOT problems… No gravity? So what? No atmosphere? So what? Seriously! You say that like it's a bad thing… IT"S NOT Comment from : George Warner |
we would be destroying the earths atmosphere and ecosystem to build ships for an otherwise uninhabitable planet, why not turn mars into an industry planet and make it produce for earth instead of trying to colonize it as a utopia brbrbrAnother suggestion would be to build near light speed capitol ships that humans can live on for centuries incase the earth is in great danger some day Comment from : milly |
Create a ship that runs from sound vibrations and crystals, the andromedians have Comment from : 33mavboy |
