If you are going to mine large asteroids it makes the most sense to turn the asteroid itself into both factory and habitat This would be the most cost efficient and safest thing to do After you have a sufficient number of factories built you can redirect small and medium sized asteroids straight to the factory for processing Comment from : CASEY BARLAAN |

Imagine being a space settler, on a self-suficient space truck, picking one asteroid and building a home in it, mining, turning it into a hollow, spinning farm colony and selling the left over raw materials to other coloniesbrThat would be the dream Comment from : Willian Nobre |

Kiss goodbye to the Kuiper belt and Saturn's rings 😂 Comment from : AtheisticAtheist |

I could imagine early on, pushing one or two smaller asteroids into earth orbit to use as nearby test cases for mining/colonizing It would be much easier (and cheaper) to spend a few days traveling each way than almost a year to get people and equipment to it to experiment with At that range, time slots could be allocated to let private/commercial interests to develop/test their research (maybe similar to Ansari X Prize initiative) Comment from : triularity |

Which term would fit better? Interplanetary or Intra[solar]system? Comment from : triularity |

The mission to Pscyhe asteroid has been delayed due to software issues in the probe 2023 or 2024 launches are possible, which would arrive in 2029 and 2030 due to relative movements of Earth and Psyche, respectively Comment from : Generic Avatar |

Think bigger make the machine that would crush and process the material into useable parts or processed pure materials for use later Literally a factory in space Using electrical nuclear lasers to break up asteroids into useable sized pieces To be crushed and melted The factory becomes a settlement Comment from : Fx M |
|
They always show an astronaut in a spacesuit I think that's just not practical Better is robotic assisted enclosure for a person With tools and other changeable assisted capabilities Safer for the people Since most of this mining would involve very sharp hard or hazardous materials The spacesuit is obsolete Comment from : Fx M |

What about infinite tubes/rather not elevators(because it can't be connected to planets that orbit suns but could be near to it)/habitats stretching from a galaxy to another and making planets the "islands" and its inhabitants "islanders" because most people live in infinitely greater structures that connect galaxies and have glasslike exteriors to cover imported nature below from various planets(if other nature is found on planets) ? It can even be long and thin like highways of many connected asteriks * -> in 3 d like bacterias but with tentacles stretching in all the desirable directions [it could be built from all the lost asteroids as well as from a method(? does it exist?) to create matter from air (?) ] Comment from : Matteo Lupo |

4:00 gold and platinum, did I miss something, is there a reason to go after those? Comment from : Indiana Bones |

could you talk more about stone or regolith concrete ships built in space? it seems like the cheapest material to build with for a exterior of a ship saving the metals and silica for interior and techbrthere could be drones that 3d print a ship using regolith from asteroids Comment from : SingingintheDark |

16 Psyche is numbered 16 because it was the 16th asteroid discovered It's thought to be the 10th largest asteroid in the main belt Comment from : Alphqwe |
