I become agitated/angry/frustrated/emotional that I have to be the one to take care of myself (self-soothe) I notice this the most when my “I am not enough” story is triggered for different reasons Is this because my anxious preoccupied/fearful avoidant programming is still intact and am still looking to others (Abe) to take care of me when I should be self-soothing? Self soothe strategiesbr- Journalbr- Meditate & be with my thoughts and feelings, notice them br- Listen to emotions as a feedback (helps to regulate feelings as they come up) to see if somethings out of alignment & see if I need to question some stories, figure out what my needs are in that moment to feel relief, to feel betterbr- Have a healthy relationship with the way I speak to myself, internal dialogue Comment from : Missgevious |

I agree with some of the stuff you say but not in the exact way as you describe For me the trigger is not about “when a person is pulling away and I’m losing myself as a result” for me is like “ how is this person that I showed so much kindness love and affection is not reciprocating the same way “ I feel disrespected and like a fool, my need for emotional connection just got rejected when I trusted them deeply It’s not about them abandoning me completely, I would rather they would abandon me vs do that mind fuck , push and pull that goes on for a while I would rather have them say directly and leave Because it’s not the fear of abandonment and not really about rejection if it’s a new person, but more about rejection from a person that you trusted, opened up and was so vulnerable around for a longer period of time and when they start pulling away that becomes very hurtful It feels like a betrayal or slow death Comment from : Jojo none |

I deal with my anxiety by self medicating with heavy drinking and, more recently, cigarettes I know it’s not healthy, but it works to a certain extent and calms the stress response I know I’m killing myself, though and I know I need to learn healthier methods to self soothe Thank you for this advice Comment from : Grettir Asmundarson |
