Over $900 sounds like a lot and that is even with me buying some new clothes because my body is changing because of weight gain because of menopause!

Hi Marissa! I found your channel this summer, and by now I've watched most of your videos I'm in the middle of a large restructure and declutter after some big life changes last year, and some more to come, and your videos have helped me keep my motivation up and just get it done I really like your fun and down to earth personality, and the fact that you practice family minimalism with the focus on living and not on aesthetics is so refreshing ❤😊 I live in Norway and much of your experience with weather and culture in Germany applies to the rest of northern Europe too (the thing about taking off shoes when entering the house applies to most of the world, I think, with north America being the anomaly😂) I have a couple of tips for you that I hope will be of use I noticed that you are often cold in the winter, and that you don't seem to have any woollen clothes Wool is huge in Scandinavia, and I dress myself and my son in wool through the winter There are some great brands selling timeless, organic and minimally processed woollen clothes, and the ones I buy here in Norway are actually manufactured in Germany, so I'm sure you'll find them there too I always wear a woollen singlet as a base layer from October to April, which means I can wear my blouses and shirts through the cold season, with wool underneath and a cardigan on top I also really recommend getting woollen felt slippers for home, and a thin woollen sweater and wool pyjama bottoms/joggers to wear in the house It really helps! Another benefit of wool is that it does not stain or smell easily, so I normally wash my woollen clothes once or twice a year (except for socks, which need washing more frequently) The other tip is for line drying: if you get some clothes pegs/pins, you will be able to hang clothes in a single layer instead of doubled up, and it will cut drying time down to half 😉 Wishing you all the best on your YouTube break! 😊

I do swap out my wardrobe for summer/winter; we have such limited closet space, and my summer pieces are so light that layering them with heavier items just doesn't look good But I have a core wardrobe of jeans and tees that are out all year I just remove the "extremes" (very light/very heavy clothes) as the seasons change
Comment from : Pia Käyhkö

Wow, creating a new wardrobe each season sounds like such a horror to me haha 😅 I am all for a year-round, sustainable wardrobe and loved, loved your tips!

I find that shoes are the most expensive part of shopping since I don’t buy used shoes Most of our clothes are from thrift stores, sale racks, or clothes swapping with family

I don't know how I feel about reselling stuff I got at the thrift store I feel that if I was lucky enough to find a nice pair of booties for example at a great price but they ended up not fitting or hurting my feet I'd rather donate or resell them really cheap like I got them to offer another person the opportunity to get nice boots for cheap Maybe its just me but it feel morally wrong to me I know a bunch of people literaly do that at a job but idk Just me thought
Comment from : SabrinaRyan

Joy Wintersteen
$900 is way more than I would spend Selling my clothes is pointless as most come from the thrift store anyway

This year, and this year only, my partner will spend 1000 Because he did need a fitting suit and had none, and since we moved he needs summer clothes that he hadn't But apart from that, i agree with most comments, i spend half of this if I need new shoes, even less if not

Rewatching this 8 months post party w number 2 human I don't know why I specified that :D I have a few extra jackets that I rarely use and they are just taking up space in my closet I also realized recently that I need some button down/polos for going out to cafes that I lack in my wardrobe and your voice was in my head and I realized I could dress them up or down and so it was a win!

In the past 5 years I have bought 2 pairs of pants, 4 shirts, 3 pajama pants, one pajama shirt, several bras, and several pairs of underwear I think the total cost is under 300 dollars I am, however, planning to replenish my wardrobe by the end of this yearby getting a few of each item of clothing- pants, shorts shirts , dresses, shoes, accessories I still think it will be under 300 dollars this year😁

I am a very low maintenance person that, and in the last 6 and a half years I have been a stay at home mom for about 4 and a half of those I have clothes that I have owned for years Last year I bought a t-shirt for summer and a pair of shoes for winter and a poloneck jersey I probably spent 75 Euro's in total 1000 dollars seems to much for my lifestyle But if you need to project a certain image it's probably very little

Yes! I live in New England, and this is such an issue for me I feel like I switch my closet out 4 times a year! But I'm wondering, if you wear your clothes all year round, how often do you need to replace them? I find that my tshirts that I wear all year long only last a year or so Do you have any brands that you like for particularly well made clothes?
Comment from : Lily P

I think I spend a fair bit more than that on clothes per family member per year But, we live in a very remote area there are no second hand shops etc and I will only buy ethical, sustainable things so I feel it's justified and with in our means

I spend maybe 50 dollars a year on clothing that includes socks underwear new or a new dress for a wedding or to replace something i need thats lived a long life and looking daggy Most the stuff i buy is second hand and im always open to buying second hand because you often find bargains at random times so like leather shoes or a wool jacket or hand made quilt like if its there you have to buy it because its not like youll find it again and its like usually 5 dollars or something so even if its more impulse or you end up not using or liking it you can either redonate it or give it to family friends I dont feel comfortable selling things in general but its kinda taboo here in aus to sell stuff youve bought from charity stores like people donate those things so that poorer people can have nice things for a few dollars not so you someone who isnt in desperate need can buy it and resell it for retail price I mean when i think of all the wonderful things ive bought from op shops and i think i would never be able to have this otherwise and what if that person had decided to sell them instead of donate them i realise that it would be unfair of me to benefit from something and not return the favour brbrSo ive donated very expensive things very valuable things that i couldve easily made a few hundred dollars or more off of but knowing that that will make someones day as my day has been made by other peoples generosity makes it all worth it after all if im getting rid of it its of no value to me anymore anyway Its taking up valuable energy time space and money to store it So its actually adding value to my life by donating it
Comment from : EmmaAppleBerry

Yay, layers is the trick! A long, long time ago when we could travel, I always packed outfits that I could use all the items of the same day if it was cold 🥶 We have four seasons here in Sweden, and usually we have pretty much the same weather on every holiday (think christmas, easter and midsummer) 8 degrees and rain So no need to put away ”winter clothes” etc off season
Comment from : Catharina B

Amy Hyruhm
OmG! 960$????? That is a fortune I hate having clothes that Idon't love passionately Such a waste, so I never go shopping but only buy the odd gem I coincidentaly come across which fits my existing colour scheme and is cheaper than making it myself An interesting design in plain fabric is preferable to patterned fabric Love your denim dress!!!

$1000 sounds like a lot to me! Although I am in the process of getting some minimalist [barefoot] shoes, so this year will be a bit closer to that mark xD brbrUsually I do thrift store/yard sale finds - and I found a Merinosilk sweater from New Zealand for under $5 this spring! Sure, I needed to spend $20 something for merino/silk blend yarn to mend some old moth damage, and it is too small to wear as an outside layer but it has become my absolute favorite for an under layer for hiking or spending time outside in the winter Love the pattern, love the fabric, love the fit (when I use it in a creative way!) <3

I had never heard of the less than 100$ rule it’s a bit extreme, what I have heard before and prefer a lot more is the 20 rule! If you can replace the item under 20$ and under 20 minutes you should declutter it :)
