I bought one on Temu Wanted to compare it to my ASE It was under $2brbrFlip was easy to seebrbrI use the ping test Comment from : Muscles Mouse |
I have a type 2 - 2022 , passed ping test , features are rounded nicely , straight U under claw , year is right sized under the line , but the reeds notch is just under the right wing tip of Eagle facing out over the F ---> OF weight is good 3mm thick , the notch has me stumped ? What do you think ? Comment from : mark hall |
They didn’t have to remove the reed You bought it!!!! In fact you bought a couple of them Comment from : 1964 quarter! |

My dealer just accidentally took in a tube of fake 2023 Type 2 Eagles Was in a hurry and didn't check them Got bit hard He gave me one for demo purposes only Took a drill to the reverse side and the second the bit dug in, the bright orange copper core was exposed! This one has the incorrect "U" on the reverse, and the security feature is at the 3 O'clock position when viewed from either direction This fake passes the flip test yet is slightly off on the ping test Haven't checked with magnets yet Nonetheless, the drill clearly exposed the copper Comment from : Mesabi Miner |

eBay has been flooded with Fake eagles that's why I don't buy them anymore Comment from : Daniel Bull Runner Lamb |
I think the counterfeiters caught up because I have to 2022 silver eagles and they both had the security feature but the one is right above the left-wing not in the middle of the coin it's right at the tip if you're looking at the coin it would be the left wing on the bird facing you it would be the right wing of the bird what do you think Comment from : Drifter |
Should I be concerned that the local Coin Store I have been using for 10 years offered to sell me a 2023 Silver Eagle with no missing reed Comment from : Craig Peterman |
Mine has the reed at 3 o’clock not 12 So it’s a fake It’s a 2022 The new 2023 the reed is in the 3 o’clock position Oh well! Comment from : Lee Dodson |
thought I'd let you know that the link for your Cell Phone Tripod is broken Comment from : DavidZ da Best! |

It does not look like is much of a crime to sell fake silver eagles Purchased 10 silver eagles close to spot all fakes Reported the purchase to secret service don’t want to know about it They don’t care Comment from : Werner Heidemann |
I just got a fake from a seller with 100 positive feedback and it had the security notch in the correct position for 2022 Weight was correct, dimensions were correct The design was pretty close and without a real on beside it I may not have caught it because the diff are very subtle The font is the biggest difference that caught my eye I used the CoinTester app on my phone and it was flagging it as fake so I took it to my local trusted coin store and it is indeed a fake Another dead giveaway was when the seller refunded my money but wouldn’t let me send it back Be careful my fellow stackers, the cheats are getting REALLY good! Comment from : bigredman31 |
Maples always Security features are harder to fake Comment from : Panda Digital Love |
Just bought a fake on eBay last week non magnetic ,weight slightly under ,had the missing reed but it was slightly larger The giveaway was the detail on the eagles feathers very crude compared to real one Comment from : Bluegrass Diggers |
This bunch was too stupid to TRY to duplicate the security featurelook at the coloring, it's wrong, too Comment from : Michael Kuhl |

I bought a bunch of Silver Eagles on eBay that turned out to be fakes The missing reed feature was on the coins but in the wrong location which was a dead giveaway I got a refund and reported the Seller but, based on the Seller's feedback history, several other people bought the same fake coins but never knew Comment from : Matt Naiman |
I recently bought a few 2022 Silver Eagles (Type II) from JM Buillon just to see if they were legit For a while I was afraid that JM Buillon was producing fakes, but I assume they aren't since there's that missing reed part missing Still, does anybody know whether counterfeiters have achieved the goal of faking the security feature? Also, does anybody know whether JM Buillon is legit or not? I still have some doubts, yet I don't know why Thanks! Comment from : Landen Oba |
Should be against the law for certain and it does give stacking coins a black eye ! Unfortunately but as long as you're being careful and now your sellers the game will remain and have no strain 😎 Comment from : power play 4 real |

Thanks for posting on the type 2’s I just began taking action on two sellers - fleabay of course I received 5 type 1 and 5 type two counterfeit 2021 Silver Eagles No security feature on the type two Mine though are non magnet, overweight, too thick…but absolutely beautiful I was able to detect a minute pinpoint trace of underlying copper on the edge of a couple of the 2’s Shipped from the US They were not priced so suspiciously but just enough under avg retail and modestly above spot to get my attention My my coin dealer in business since 1985 was knocked over by the appearance, detail, luster etc In a holder these are not detectable He thanked me and is avoiding 2021’s until he gets some high end non invasive analyzer I’m very experienced and knew to scrutinize these…I rolled the dice so yo speak and got burnt I’ll get some short video together to post Comment from : Ytcoinshooter |

An ad here on YouTube for 2020 Silver Eagles (type 1) got my attention over the simmer 20 coins for $99 The ad showed great looking coins that held up to thorough study of the pictured coins in the ad And the wording of the ad stating how Silver Eagles are great for your retirement portfolio Et Al Since the shipping was from China, and at this price I knew they had to be fake Unless somebody was just plane crazy Not likely I purchased them anyway, kind of just for fun to see how much crap could be stirred up over these being advertised here on YouTube and the payment transaction through PayPalbrbrWhen these coins came I took them to dealer who has a mass spectrometer and had them tested 54 copper with a whopping 14 silver Really bad engraving and the fine details are just not there Comment from : Bill Dee |
Call me a conspiracy theorist but I think the missing reed isn’t a security feature It’s a sick joke from the fed since they’ve been debasing our currency They clipped a reed off all our money Comment from : Drew |
Thx for the info everything today is buyer beware don’t buy no silver from China or Russia Comment from : mel legacy |

What year did type 2 eagles start? Comment from : Tom Caviar |
Soon the fakers will get smart and price the fakes at the same price as the real coins It will totality destroy the market The fakers will make as much money with fewer sales I am surprised they have not figured this out Comment from : 2 cents worth |
Oh my Lord the filed down nub didn't foil this attempt? What about the larger date? I'm shocked SD! That's why I like Britanniais my friend That's a real security feature Comment from : John Green |
Just because this fake doesn’t have the missing reed doesn’t mean all fakes don’t have the missing reed Comment from : Doug Lyons |
could any of these mistakes actually be a mint error? sometimes legit errors get assumed to be counterfeits, because no one has seen another example of this error id like to see if someone has any legit error silver eagle coins to compare to known counterfeits Comment from : Karl Stenbeck |
what kind of a monster would counterfeit our moneys?br(aside from the Federal Reserve) Comment from : Karl Stenbeck |
That didnt take long 😉👍 Comment from : Ehren Krause |
That is an interesting question, Silver Dragons I don't think fake coins would have the security feature However, Silver Dragons, many of the reverse proof and proof American Silver Eagles don't have the security feature too Does this mean those are fake? How can you tell? What about fractional gold Eagles? I don't think I saw a security feature on those coins Pardon me if I am wrong Comment from : Gold Maple |
Fact… I bought a fake 2016-w gold eagle yesterday It was very convincing I didn’t notice details were off until I got home Taking to a shop today to confirm it is fake The fake is pretty damn convincing Comment from : Nathan Swartz |

The 2021 ASE type 2 fake looks so bad and the reeds look all jacked up too Comment from : Chai Charin |
Well explained Comment from : Juan Ramirez |
Not a fan of the missing reed Compare this to the much better security features of British and Canada coins, holograms, tiny lettering The missing reed is a weak feature, won't be long before the fakes have them Comment from : Mark D songs and stuff |
Why it has to be China always? Do they not have a law in China against producing counterfeit product? Comment from : mighty Q |
Quite interesting to hear your comments on type 2’s as many of us have these coins with more to come Very valuable info indeed !brMany thanks for your effortsbrQuestion IS the magnet your using a standard magnet or is it a rare earth one? Thanks again and keep on stacking! Comment from : Michael Dvorak |

Thank you! Comment from : Jeff Brozowski |
FYI…brI just ordered 100 ASE’s and picked “random” year…brAll 100 from a reputable dealer(apmex) are 2021 type 2!brWhy? Because it’s all they had So it stands to reason that physical is going fast and supply is running out…think it thru… Comment from : Kalola Wahine |
Once they have sold the fake to you, they don't care if you find out that it's fake at that pointthey already have your money If you re sell them the originators don't get any more money so all they care about is that initial order, once you fall for that they know you'll never be back but if they get enough "one shot wonders" they don't care Comment from : Hap Newsom |
How do you know china is feiking this coins and not someone alse Comment from : Jose Aguilar |
My guess is price, most coins have reeds so to make a collar with one missing reed is essentially a b*b*/b and a half to make and not worth the effort Comment from : Youtubesurfer01 |
If it was a badly produced, would you complain? Comment from : eric bond |

Is it illegal to have fake coins for the purposes of decoys? Comment from : Joshua |
🌎🗿™ Comment from : James Oneal Brown |
The fake coin doesn't have the security feature just because it is a poor fake Think it is just not intended to sell it as an original coin Just a souvenir Comment from : SILVER STACKING ACADEMY |
That was interesting I suspect that this early batch was just banged out to make a quick buck I'd be willing to bet that in a few years (or less) you're going to have fake coins that have the missing reed When that happens maybe the US Mint will take security seriously like the British and Canadian Royal Mints have Thanks! Comment from : QuickSilver |
Only a matter of time Comment from : Christian Andrews |
Lol that was quick, no supply chain interruption on fake coins 🤦🏻♂️🤌🏻 Comment from : BIGJK |
Seems time/cost prohibitive to try to hand-orient these and cleanly file individually, however, child and slave labor is cheap in China Comment from : Been Danglin’ |
Dragon what are the possibilities of getting a fake silver from SD,Hero,JM or any other place like those? Comment from : METALS 305 |
