I was coming out every day to dozens of cucumbers, but because I couldn't keep up, I was getting cucumbers that were overgrown to the size of FOOTBALLS! Hi Kevin, ty for your very informative channel Question for you Okay a couple lol Firstly, a Masterblend (tomato formula) question, when i mix it exactly as it says to, my EC is barely 10 That seems really low? I am using RO water Secondly My first attempt at a dwc system with a pickling cucumber variety, a lot of dry edges which seems to be a potassium deficiency I tried to correct it to no avail and finally tossed it and my next i am growing in a grow bag under artificial lighting and i'm finding the same thing, i'm using a coco coir, perlite and worm casting potting mix self made and giving the odd watering with Masterblend It also has dry edged leaves and curling upward Watering deficiency? Feeling a bit frustrated :D Any help you can give me would be so appreciated! Thank you! Comment from : Dee |

The diluted milk works a treat on powdery mildew First time I had it was this year Removed the few worst leaves, sprayed the rest Took two applications about five days apart The PM was not on the cucumbers though, but on the pumpkin and cantaloupe The cucumbers were basically finished by that timebrbrI grow mine hydroponically, and they tasted perfect (kratky method) They also grew HUGE I actually had way too many cucumbers, and the chickens got a fair bit esp during the hot days (good water content)brbrAnyway, they are super easy to grow Trellis is the main thing, I happened to have very wide mesh, and used that Comment from : Davina Squirrel |

The first thing I ever grew was actually a apple tree It was absolutely accidental As a kid I threw a core in my backyard and just thought it would break down so didn’t think much of it until a small sapling started to grow in the place I threw the core I asked my foster mom about it and she told me it was an apple tree growing So she allowed me to grow it out I loved watching the tree grow Sadly we moved years ago and obviously I didn’t take the tree with me I always wonder if it’s still Alive and producing apples, i know when I lived there it had started to produce some apples They were small but delicious The first thing I actually tried to grow was a giant pumpkin A little ambitious I know but I just really wanted to grow a pumpkin for Halloween It was such a fun process and I did successfully get a small large pumpkin I say small large bc it was 25 lbs which is a good size for a pumpkin just not what it was supposed to be It was supposed to get up to 150lbs but that’s probably something I did to mess it up It was still really cool to grow I also absolutely love growing cucumbers for making pickles!!! I just wanted to say that you don't need to grow pickle cucumbers only for pickling We're in rural Croatia and just like people do in the villages here we grow a lot of our own food The climate gives us long summers but they are brutal to our plants so we have a few varieties that can survive the heat and sun during the hottest period Cucumbers are usually one French cornichon for pickling and one local kind that contaivs more water but is short and works both for pickling and eating fresh Now, I prefer the French ones They should be picked and pickled when they are very small, but we leave them to grow 3-4 times the length of pickled cornichons They are much sweater and absolutely less sensitive to becoming bitter from the heat In other words, I would recommend sowing several kinds of cucumbers and not limiting what it can be used for Pick some early if you want tiny pickles, but otherwise just use them as fresh cucumbersbrbrThis year our cucumbers do unusually well They're in the field and we have no irrigation system, but we need to water manually every evening This means we need to add a lot of water to prevent the soil from drying up during the day, so there is no gentle, even flow and sooner or later the cucumber do die of mildew This year we let them grow vertically and it seems it's good for them There is mildew, but not much and it arrived very late Our neighbour's vertical cucumber is doing well too, but our other neighbour let his grow horizontally and his cucumbers are all dead by now I would say the vertical solution is better, even if you have the space to let them stay on the ground Comment from : That Salt |
