Why can't they make starship without the rocket inside of it and make the rocket booster bring it into orbit?

Linear shaped charge would make it easy to separate the "rocket" part from the living space part A module that can provide connections can be fit into a cargo Starship It'd be much thinner than the inner diameter of the Starship, but would provide that functionality A few of those could connect together, acting as a central "hub" Starship living sections could be connected to that via scaffolding, maybe inflatable tubes that would connect to the central hub?

all of them should be made with the Ring Decks, because they all could function with planet or acceleration generated gravity type force, or without gravity as a space station Plus it would make manufacturing much easier because construction workers would be able to walk on the decks

You could also use a pre-fab space station launched inside a Starship thats built out of the newer inflatable modules, that would let you launch a huge space station thats even bigger after you deploy it

a plasma cutter in the hands of an experienced user is very easy to use While stainless steel has a very good abrasion rating diamond cutting blades are not required the plasma cutter would be ideal the primary issue would be the fact that cutting into an empty methane tank can cause an explosion Fortunately the solution to that issue is extremely easy all you need is a pair of valves & pressure suits for each person onboard at the time one valve connects an external port to the Methane tank & the other valve is a direct vent from the crew cabin to an external port once the Methane tank is equalized to vacuum & the crew cabin as well it would be perfectly safe to cut the tank away

SpaceX is toying with the disconnect ring fairing, which would allow the StarShip to connect to other sub rockets that could disconnect and drop back to Earth This would allow the Upper State of a StarShip to connected in long string of Upper Stages Or the other option from a payload option is that they could haul inflatable habitats up, and use them to create the orbital ring As you mention, there is room for a 7 meter x 10 meter long payload And an inflatable habitat can expand 3 to 10 times their size Offering significantly more space than even a starship could provide

Horizontal (Circular) decks would probably be the best idea If the decks are linked by bulkheads they can be sealed in the event of an emergency and each deck can be isolated It also retains its structural strength Linking them nose first is also practical as the engines will be facing out and can be fired for manoeuvring without cooking the next shipbrStarship could be used to launch some absolutely massive expanding station parts

I believe the starship could be modified in space easily enough with a well-thought-out plan especially if we use the ISS as a jumping-off point Yes, I understand this plan has problems but if we approach this idea as a dynamic plan, we could learn a whole lot about building in space as you suggested This could work

How about using starship as a space ship instead of thinking of it just as something to ferry large items into LEO or using it as a space station If you want to haul a lot of people with a lot of other equipment onto the moon or Mars, could starship really act as a ferry to do that?

Horizontal decks allows personnel to retreat to inner rooms in cases of emergencies like hull breach or debris / micrometeorite showers You can build out a central room or rooms that can support life until rescue, rather than everybody going to a central ladder or stairwell in a vertical deck setup

Why overthink this The whole rocket is usable The bottom stage could be used and suround that stage with three boosters for initial lift off Those will return to earth as usual and the main stage will be used as refillable fuel storage for the space station
