I would recommend adding a tarp and knife to both you and your husbands bags, my hubby got separated from us recently due to a flash flood and I can see that would have been helpful

No kind of cordage included? Paracord or even some bank line (something I don't think I've seen in the UK) Needed to fashion a shelter, a roof at least, or to just tie things together Of course the line can be used to keep your family together too Rather like elephants holding on "trunk to tail" We are lucky in the UK not having to face hurricanes or tornados but we have had a few floods

For anyone who’s lives in a relatively safe area, disasters still happen, so if you’re umming and ahhhing about creating one of these - do it I live in a quiet city, no fault lines, no fires, no floods, no volcanos, power plants And we still had some sort of gas emergency that meant my entire neighbourhood had to vacate the area within half an hour for up to three days Man am I glad I had those bags…

you should try and use all of them have everyone grab their bag and jackets, and head off in vehicle Go to side of the road and hike into a liveable seeable place (not the woods you will get lost) maybe park and go through the bags with the kids so they are aware of what each thing could do, and how to eat, drink and keep bottles etc it will give you a better idea of who reacts well and who doesn't, and how much you know

Wow! I'vee lived for over a half of a century and never needed a "bug out bag" My family even needed to evacuate our home due to wildfires and we had enough time tp pack what we needed I would hate to have had stale food in a bag I agree we should all be prepaired for disasters but we don't live in a third world country The things we normally stock in our homes will get the job done

You are missing paradord, might also be a good idea to get some ground stakes as well They can be used for a lot of things, they are generally light and take up little space Put two knives in each of the “adult” bags One will be a larger fixed blade knife and one a small leatherman with pliers that is a multi-tool

I know you included it in the adult bags, but I think you should also include matches, lighters, and a small knife in the kids bags Just in case they get separated from the adults they can still make a fire and defend themselves
