Great emergency kit!!! I would recommend having a written list of things that have expiration dates, or need to be changed out (seasonal clothing, food, batteries, hygiene items, etc) that way you can just pull out the list and know what needs replacing The list also helps with items that I have used and needs replacing I also have a list on my phone too I check my bag monthly Every person in our family has most of those items plus a phone charger, solar charger, hand crank generator, solar panels, USB batteries, disposable batteries, solar panel, an emergency radio that is solar-powered, battery operated, rechargeable, and hand crank (it can charge electronics and has an extra flashlight), a solar-powered/hand crank flashlight, a solar battery charger w/rechargeable batteries, etc Adults should also have an entertainment kit too My niece has a small magna doodle board, a small etch a sketch, a coloring/activity book, crayons, crayon/pencil sharpener, and a few favorite toys She has a kids smartwatch (with music, stories, games, etc), a tablet, and headphones She is special needs so a lot of items in her bag are specifically made for her Our backpacks are waterproof, but we still put everything in waterproof pouches, or containers too just in case Comment from : cruiser122 SD |

This is a great start but needs fine tuning brbrAdding a 3gal construction trash bag and lining the inside of you pack will make it basically like a dry bag brbrNever Buy Cotton! Cotton Kills when it gets wet it stays wet and it takes longer to dry Please purchase sweat wicking clothing or at least polyester or fleece If those get wet it’ll still maintain your body heat and won’t take as long to dry brbrId also advise in getting a tarp as well for a better tent option Ponchos are NOT water proof it’s water resistant to a certain degree You will still get wet to a point as a hiker I suggest in purchasing wool during winter and fleece for spring to fall brbrFor big families look into a water filter system Like a sawyer gravity fill or water bladders It’ll make your life easier Comment from : Velvet Sky |
At Walmart they have small umbrellas you can get for a dollar that doesn't take up a lot of room Comment from : Madie Hulen |
I would suggest you take the gear out and practice with a little bit even in your backyard, those mylar survival blankets and tents rip with a stiff breeze brbrBut you can find fleece car blankets usually on sale for $10 or less brbrI has far as blankets go this may sound weird but invest in a good quality pre-washed 80 or more wool blanket If you’re out in the elements having to keep warm that wool blanket will retain something like 80 of its insulating value when completely wet (Lessons from the Scottish and wool kilts) Comment from : Cliff |

I'm prepping on a very low income so i try to get pantry stuff that i already eat, so I can put new stuff in the bag, take out the older stuff and put it in the cupboard I have emergency shelter in place food that might need to be cooked, but in my bag I have things I can eat cold or just warmed up a little I have baked beans, precooked minute rice in the cups, saltines, peanut butter, applesauce, etc Knorr dollar rice, ramen and oatmeal packets are good, too, if you bring a way to heat water It could just rehydrate in cold water if you got desperate enough honestly Comment from : no peace |
When you touched on glow sticks you got cheap dollar store ones but I would spend a little extra for Chem lights they are military grade glow sticks they last longer and are brighter Comment from : Griffin W |
