Hi everyone, can anyone provide me an answer for this LEAPS strategy? I am very new to optionsbrLet's say if I am going to buy a LEAPS contract that will expire on January 2024 There could be 2 strategies that I can execute based on my understanding(if Tesla stock price is much higher than my strike price):brbr1 Exercise the contract and buy 100 sharesbr2 Sell the contract for leveraged profitbrbrI am inclined towards method 2 as I will not have enough money to exercise the option Which means I can sell for a leveraged profit Getting more shares will be my first priority and if I sell my option contract and buy Tesla shares, the average price would be much higher than my current holdings in Tesla Haven't done the calculations if I DCA VS buying shares after selling the LEAPS contract before expiry date Anyone has an insight for this? Getting profit from selling LEAPS and buying shares after rather than owning shares at a lower average price already is a loss for me as I would need to sell my shares to afford 1 LEAPS contract Please clarify for those who are experienced Thanks

I used 4 660c to be able to buy more shares Bought them when stock was at 600 Sold 2 to be able to exercise 1, sold another to buy my next round of leaps

One thing you have to careful about with leaps is they are very vulnerable to economic shocks You could have all your investment in leaps and months before expiry there is a bad recession and poof there is no recovery Of course if you are deep in the money there is protection You want to balance share an leaps to suit your risk tolerance Right now leaps look great but they also drop like a stone when there is a hint of trouble I have about 1/3 of shares in leaps

I mean, borrowing against the house is the same as SBL, it's all margin I can't imagine any way of increasing your return, unless you're willing to take larger unnecessary risks which doesn't make sense in your position (from what I can tell)

Since 4/2020 I´m selling short puts on Tesla (I have shares as well) With this technique I´m collecting preminum in regular intervales (30-40days) My last short put I sold in October 18th (11 Nov 5th, 650) which I will buy back today, within a few days I made 300$, very good dinner with family secured;)

I bought $1000 calls in the summer, most with a Jan 22 expiration, the rest is Jan 23 Around 400 and 200 up on them I'm not sure what to do After such an epic run we could be done for the year and I could just bleed money, but the run could still continue and I could miss out on insane gains I'll probably roll them as far out as I can

Before investing in options, one must really understand the impact of implied volatility and time decay If not, beware Most options contracts expire worthless Options are a powerful tool, but must be wielded carefully

I keep thinking I should have gotten some LEAPS I did one that expired around the time of the Cybertruck unveil, knowing that Tesla should explode sometime in the two years leading up to that, but the short interest kept it flat I bbarely/b made money as the price rose around the CT unveiling That kind of scared me away from options; it's too "all or nothing" for me Personally, I prefer trading on a modest amount of margin It's a bit less potential return, but I'm not as at the mercy of the macro environment, which can be ultra irrational, and make even "sure bet" options expire worthless

My only LEAPs are Jan 2024, up almost 100 in 5 weeks Great leverage brBut speaking of margin, I got some news today which was a shock A Fidelity rep told me that Fidelity had just added TSLA to their list of non-volatile stocks, which means that even with a 100 concentration of TSLA in an account, the maximum margin maintenance requirement Fidelity will put on the position is 40 The practical meaning of that is that 25x leverage is now available If anyone knows of a brokerage firm with a lower maintenance requirement than that, please share that info with me here I am moving a pile of Tesla and other positions back into Fidelity, after having moved them out 9 months ago after Fidelity hit me with a 60 maintenance requirement which they refused to negotiate

Sold Nov19th’21 (40calls) strike 900 today @ 950, 975, 990, 1000, 1025 decided to keep the remainder 37 calls have a few more for Feb ‘22 (45calls)@strike950 not selling ! Congrats everyone! Awesome day! 👍🙏🏻🚀 To the moon TSLA !!!

The only leaps I had today is when I heard Tesla's price when I woke up I don't mind learning though so if you wish to share it would be nice I'm a very basic investor I buy, I hold, I DCA and I wait It's working out very well so far but of course this could be improved in some cases

I have turned $70k into north of 600k in the last 20 Months or so bybr1 Buying Teslabr2 Holding no margins / nothing fancy I sold none in Jan at $900 and watched it fall to $560 and still did nothingbrnow its $1025 and ? Ummm You could always sell the leap on expiration, rather than exercising, and just buy as many shares as you can afford from the profit, while borrowing zero

I sold 140 shares of Tesla to buy 4 leaps at $770 strike price with a 2024 expiration date a few weeks ago, they are up almost 50 And they are in IRAs, so no tax

My calls are all in my IRA I had a bunch of ITM calls expiring this and next month Sold those off last week (whoops), can't complain much though Today I rolled some deep ITM 2022 and 2023 leaps into just OTM leaps for 2023 More options and more cash in the account Fingers crossed
