Have you considered adding a heat powered fan to blow on the fire? Comment from : william James |
what a lovely monstrosity XD Comment from : Mr Picky |
Really enjoyed this video…kinda would’ve like an hear a little explanation and seen more overall of machine Looks great and a whole lot of elbow grease…ya did good…very good !! Comment from : Donald Fifer |
That is really awesome keep up the good work 👍 Comment from : Jack |
Okay, very cool engines What I find interesting is you are using a Bic style cigarette lighter when in reality you should be using either a torch lighter, the ones with the blue flames that resemble a small torch or get yourself a piezo-ignition switch propane or map-pro torch Not very expensive either way My piezo-ignition torch was only about CA$80 and is a Bernzomatic brand Comment from : WJCTechyman |
Surely the sterling engine must be ideal for a small boat with kitchener gear, has anyone tried it or something similar? A new African Queen? Comment from : Tony Marren |
1/2 мешка угля чтобы произвести пуск, крайне не экономично Загрузка топлива неудобно Есть модель Стирлинга крутит от тепла ладони Comment from : Maxim Zhartsef |
Beautiful! Comment from : energymarketchile |
That is way cool , but looks really angry as its pumping hard , provably camera frames trying to keep upbrbr have you had it hooked up to a motor ,as could only see lower axle Comment from : Wayne |
Thank you for this video! Your neighbors deserve compassion! ;) Comment from : forextrader radioman |
After turning off the burner, his head came very close to have been burned too! Comment from : SurvivalSquirrel |
I'll bet you could get 5 times the power, from the same amount of heat, if you just made a steam engine Comment from : Just Tinkering |
As far as I can see it is a 2-cycle alpha-Stirling engine I guess it is running with air as cycle gas at an average pressure of ambient pressure Advanced Stirling engines use helium as working gas in a closed system at a pressure between 10 to 100 bar They can achieve efficiencies of 40 Modern Stirling engines use mostly the gamma design because you don't need hot seals for working pistons A displacer piston don't need a perfect sealing And you can use the inner displacer piston volume to integrate the regeneratorbrbrI guess the most system losses in your system come from the heater The exhaust gas ist still very hot You don't have any exhaust air heat exchanger for pre-heating of the fresh air for the coal fire With such a heat exchanger you can recuperate up to 80 of the exhaust heat losses and increase the system efficiency by far I guess the efficiency of your engine is maybe 2 or 3 You can increase it to 10 by use of exhauset heat recovery Comment from : Gunter Flunder |
Nice, but your neighbors hate you, don't they ? Comment from : Steve McGreen |
I bet the neighbors love that noise 😅 Comment from : Eastwood |
I don't see the point if you are burning fossil fuels to run it Comment from : fraser crone |
That's enough to power a squirrel cage fan for a furnace For someone who is deaf That's really cool Comment from : wes333 KE8VQJ |
I've never seen such a an angry looking and sounding Stirling engine I like that it works but it could use a shed to quiet it Comment from : Hex |
có phải đồ cổ không Comment from : hai le |
Nice Could charge my scooter in 3-4 hours with that! Comment from : happydappyman |
Have you heard of matches, a lot safer way to light the paper Comment from : Oliver Ingram |
Sure, it runs, and is huge,brI have yet to see any stirling engine actually doing work - -as in actually powering a generator, or a sawmill bladebrbrWhy not show us how good that is with a belt on the drive-pulley (if it has one) actually doing stuff Comment from : Rick Harvey |
Hopefully there won't be any karen around complaining the noise Comment from : Syam hm |
If I ever did this in my yard let alone on the sidewalk I'd be arrested within minutes, your very lucky Great stuff Cheers Comment from : Rock Crusher |
Damn That is some Willy Wonka level tech Too coolbrI think it can handle a much heavier flywheel More power! Comment from : Ananda Mañana |
Imagine using this engine in a vehicle 😂 Comment from : Tikha Gamer |
all that for 1 horsepower, is that right? Comment from : Embeded Fabrication |
good thing you guys don't have the hoa Comment from : the big un |
So now I'm wondering why the steam engine beat this one over in history 🤔 Comment from : fr3dr02 |
I wanted to know how much electrical power this produced, if any Didn't realized watt also means something entirely different apparently Comment from : Darthmufin |
Very cool! Comment from : 3UZFE |
I spotted small train tracks going around the house, this guy intelligently didn’t forget his childhood and revisits it on occasion Comment from : Michael Sylvester |
That's never 450 rpm > That's never 450 revolutions, just count (165 rpm) Comment from : Oidoo Otato |
looks fantastic - and spectacularly dangerous in the true british engineering traditions Comment from : John Jennings |
Man, since you put some wheel on the engine support frame, maybe make like a cart with this engine Just put it on a bigger frame with a steering system and all of that, would be interesting to see haha, im pretty sure it would not be that bad, since although this has low RPM, it's torque is pretty big, so it shouldn't be a problem to start cruising Comment from : Call_Me_Madu |
Ur neighbours must love u things like this u can do when u live in a countryside not in dense urban area Think about others around u please u selfish prick Comment from : Nezalu |
would it be possible to run a large Stirling engine / electric generator off the heat rising off blacktop? perhaps a few extra mirrors reflecting more sunlight to charge batteries? Comment from : ccsllc rickatg |
Nice! Comment from : Vault of discomfort |
and now plastic fresnel lens, for example headlight(s) (front part) from the junkyard Comment from : EEdd0000 |
Enjoyed the VIDEO but don't the neighbours complain about the noise !!??? Comment from : Johnathan David Dunster |
It’s giving serious steam punk Comment from : Brock Aho |
Do you have a blueprint for this?! Comment from : Jessie Paulin |
Fair play to you guys for that! I came across this vid looking for ways to generate power for a homestead Too noisy for me, and would require constant attention regarding fuel, but amazing how you did it Things that I make that run at that speed tend to be dangerous and nearly kill the dogs Yours held together admirably Respect :) Comment from : Chris Williams |
can you make it cheaper by using a car tire full of sand instead of an actual flywheel? also why isnt there more gearing? seems like you could get more out of that motor, they are supposed to be high torque Comment from : DeepFried Space |
You didn't measure the power output - you measured the RPMs and the torque - but that's impressive enough - those wattage output numbers are TOTALLY theoretical to the efficiency of any dynamo you pop on there Sure seems more efficient than a steam engine Comment from : dgetzin |
Shut up kid Comment from : Mark C M |
What does the water do? Doesn't the water mean it's a steam engine and not a Stirling engine? Comment from : Jonathan Young |
seems safe and practical to me Comment from : Paul Stevenson |
Dad what's that ?brEverybody's favourite machine if the power goes out Comment from : Strawman |
is it possible to power a house with a stirling engine? Comment from : Axe Bizarro |
how is it measuring kw? Comment from : jk Hippie |
Excellent!!!! Comment from : Akhtar Nadeem |
neighbours must love this DYI can 't wait to burn down the half of the trailor park Comment from : Gabor Szilagyi |
Nice concept as a sterling engine set upbrBut I prefer them when powered by for instance solar heat from a parabolic mirror that follows the sun during the day brBut when heating with wood a simple gasification set up can help you run a much more powerful normal combustion engine and to go very efficient you could hook up a Taurozzi pendulum engine which has much less resistance/ friction in its pistons when interacting with the cilinder wall, less need for oils to lubricate etcbrCool engine design, worth checking out when one is interested in engines of any kind Comment from : H Rutten |
Great work, thanks sir Comment from : Thanigachalam M |
Very interesting Comment from : Jacques Antoine Lalanne |
nice work Comment from : Marius Constantin |
awesome job, was just wonedring, does it have a pump that is cyclyng the water around?? Comment from : Vilém Beránek |
Yes, but how many watts in?brAlso you could rig up a nice wood gas burner in the firebox, make good charcoal or biochar in another fire Comment from : Michael Lenczewski |
É um motor de respeitobrQuando vi os pistões sabia que teria muita forçabrConstruí um Stirling em menor escala e senti o potencial capaz de chegar um motor destesbrParabéns e boa sorte! Comment from : Motores e Eletrônica |
I could love to see something like this commercialized maybe the heated portion a woodstove and the Generator part outside of the cabin Comment from : Nicholas Villarreal |
Could you dig a deep hole and use the heat from that to power it? Comment from : isyt |
Happy neighbors? Comment from : Patrik Gustafsson |
And what if you use solar light with sun lens ? :) Comment from : Lazone31 |
Their poor neighbors 🤣 Comment from : Colin Kulasik |
LoL i you got good neighbors' brothat surely wakes up the entire neighborhood😁 Comment from : ctlprogrammer |
Engine is good But stove is wrong Combustion is bad and flame temperature is too low Comment from : Vladimir Pesut |
That's awesome but maybe consider building a base that can absorb the shock of the weight and redirect it Comment from : Shilo Duncan |
Looks exactly like the one my grandmother used as the motor for her Harley Davidson menstrual cycle Comment from : DETROIT FETTYGHOST |
how do you take power from it? I'm doing some self research cause I've interested in Stirling engine generators Eventually I'd like to make my own for a homestead but id like to understand how their fully used I just found your page and am now gonna go through all of it on the generator at least Comment from : Nick C |
I like the design Comment from : Sergband 967 |
Beautiful machine you got there I could run my ice box off that👍 Comment from : James |
Batshit crazy I'm thinking this must be very high tolerance and your spec says 35mm, and it works beautifully, magnificent Someones a good welder I cant believe how fast that things going Comment from : beautifulsmall |
nice construction Comment from : rick hughes |
Son just shut up your dad’s got it Comment from : When Theres A Will Theres A Way |
thats awesome, even if its wiggling like crazy trying to kill itself and sounds more like a power hammer rather than an engine xdd, its really cool you actually measured the torque and rpm Comment from : Trapper |
What value of torque can this engine generate ? Comment from : Xx Yy |
I need a engine like this in winter to heat and produce electricity to my house!!! Comment from : users linx |
very impressed great work guys Comment from : Go Chip Me |
That’s T R E M E N D O U S B R A I N Comment from : Jeremy Brown |
I think I could put up with the noise to avoid current electricity prices Comment from : James Balmforth |
Beautiful Comment from : Ryan Davis |
Still quieter than my neighbors generator! Comment from : Jøsh |
is this basically a steam engine ? Comment from : клуб сумасшедших энерго-осознанных неэзотериков |
This is so awesome!!! Comment from : Kacee Savage |
That's a thing of beauty but aren't you suffering losses to all the wobbling and flexing? Or is that wiggle room desirable - as in bends instead of breaking? Comment from : João Vicente |
Wow biggest homebuilt stirling i've ever seen Comment from : Jesse Parker |
Bet your neighbours love you Comment from : Vin Hosten |
