I pretty much agree dude but I think of the two more like rhythm and lead When I'm strumming rhythm and singing I use the wider pick hold When I need to get into a lead and be more precise, that's when I choke up on the pick for more accuracy and attack But, you know, it's really whatever is most comfortable to the player I'm not telling you anything you don't already know, Good vid either way, your pretty sick on the guitar

I’m a player of 20 years I wasn’t self taught I had instructors But I learned bass on my own I played keyboard first, which I did have lessons with as well Now I do all three My pick escaping was bad though Even if you have an instructor you can still make many mistakes I had to enjoy playing simple songs before I could shred Friggin Ramones if you can believe that! 😅

Biggest mistake and hardest to correct I made was using the pads of my fingers to fret the stings instead of the tips It didn't become an issue until i was way too comfortable doing it my way and was both physically and mentally painful to fix

I have double jointed thumbs, which lets me do some weird things on guitar but also makes fast down picking literally impossible for me I know that sounds like an excuse, and it is, but it's just the way it is I can still pick fast, I just can't do it with down strokes

In the 80s my guitar teacher made me focus on technique which I did He also tried to make me focus on theory but at the time all I cared about was speed and could I play everything live my band wanted me to play It wasn't until about 12 years ago when I was filling in on bass for a band that wanted to switch keys all the time for the singer that I realized how woefully inadequate my theory was At 40 something I started really working on my theory It's been a long but definitely worthwhile journey Excellent note about turning down the gain/distortion when practicing because it makes mistakes much more apparent Great video! I just wanted to press the importance of theory from my experience

I taught myself some basics on acoustic aomw years ago but fell out I just found a Gibson electric pro series in the trash so I guess its time to learn again Thank you for the tips they really help to know what to fix as I transition into electric

I’ve been playing for 20 years now and have held my pick that way and never understood why I had so many issues with control and speed brbrBy moving the pick up my finger half a centimetre and curling my hands like you demonstrate, it solved every issue immediately! It didn’t even feel that different to adjust and I was more relaxed and controlled within ten minutes I really cannot thank you enough!

I played the wrong way by whole life and actually had to learn the "right way" when I dislocated the thumb joint and never had surgery Because of a slight loss of strength I had to adjust how I held the pick which is actually now the right way😂

I've been a classical guitar player since I was 7 and played acoustic along the way too I recently decided to try out electric guitar and picking is what I've struggled with most Fingering is pretty easy to me as I'm used to it and I can play them without a pick but holding a pick and playing with is so difficult for me because I never play with one

Self teaching by learning songs from the Final Fantasy series If I see myself having a hard time, I'll look into the details on it such as key signature and so on so I can start learning the scales and chords to see if it helps But I'm watching this so I can eliminate the mistakes as I go

I am the only one I know that does pinch harmonics the way I do I do not touch my thumb to the string, instead I extend my strumming hand's pinky out and touch it for the harmonic Not orthodox but my squeal game is clear and strong
