One game that breaks this rule is Poker In poker the last player has the advantage because they see how everyone reacts to the current stakes before they decide Its the best position to bluff, pressure opponents, or to fold with the least amount of risk Now the reason why this works in poker than other card games like magic is because you mostly play from the hand so the opponents won't know what you have until you reveal it I'm sure there is a lot more nuances and details I'm missing but would love to see an detail analysis on why Poker breaks this rule compared to other games Comment from : Gallowglass |

nowdays, in go games the player who go 1st (black) win 55 of the time on average (with the bonus) as oppose to 54 in chess so supposedly the bonus isnt high enoughbrbut, thats only true to human players AI tend to win more with whitebrbrso, according to the computers, the bonus is to big and we are just not smart enough to use it efficiently Comment from : MazerT |
|
I prefer mono-green man-ramp in MTG I love second turn moves because of the extra draw is soo good for a ramp deck But wizards did a great job of balancing it, I have friends that love first turn just as much because of those 1/1's with haste, or other cool effects Comment from : CatFish21sm |

I've been doing some amount of amateur, homebrew game design In one tactical combat game I designed, I let the player who goes first not get to make attacks (only moves) on his two first turns, while the player who goes second is only restricted from doing attacks on his first turn Thus, one player gets to start moving one turn before the other guy, but the other guy gets to start shooting one turn before Comment from : Anders Korsbäck |

I would say chess is a crossbreed between static and developed Yes, all the pieces are available at the outset of the game, but the positions these pieces are in determines their power In the early phase, getting your pieces out on the board, not in the starting positions, is essential, and actually called "developing" your pieces Getting pieces in the right position is the equivalent of developing resources Comment from : AntVision |

When I play Gwent in the Witcher, I always want to play second I find it best to react to my opponent rather than make my opponent react to me It lets me do stuff like pass a round if my opponent plays an uber-powerful combination of cards without wasting loads of mine, use a Scorch card without risking my own players, stuff like that Comment from : James Bennett |
