I know thid is an older video, but i would love to have you look at Final Fantasy XVI Allegedly it is made for HDR displays, but following your guidelines and using HGIG results in a completely unplayable game Raising in-game brightness looks terrible, so changing it to dynamic tone mapping is the only way to actually see anything in dark sections I imagine this is down to poor implementation on Square Enix's part, but that's something we have to contend with as gamers and need solutions that work around the problems Comment from : Nick G |
I've been using HGIG for so long since I watched this video, now I turn to DTM and boy, it feels way better to my eyes Comment from : ceskyy_ |
I have the opposite effect when I enable hgig, my screen becomes brighter and washed out and I lose detail Comment from : PrintedVisionz3D |

Hey so I'm on an oled LG from 2018 no Hgig mode after watching you video i tried to change my settings by turning DTM off but I wasn't happy at the end i play a bit with the new settings but that was too dark and just didn't seems to be hdr so I change it back But that was really good knowledge thanks Comment from : Gin Mil |
Sorry, but hgig looks awful dim I can’t understand how people play with hgig It looks unrealistic I rather sacrifice details, which I don’t really notice than playing with my expensive lg oled as if it is on energysafe mode Comment from : gintonic1984 |
I have the a90k should I turn my Dynamic tone mapping off when gaming so I don’t get double tone mapping due to the Xbox will tone map to can you help me with this ? Comment from : IB1GMANI |

In Samsung Q80B should you enable or disable HDR tone mapping option of Game HDR which optimises HGIG brightness or should it be off in game mode? Will enabling it cause a bit of black crush or is it better to enable this option in game mode? I am playing God of War Ragnarok and don't know whether I should use the TV option of HGIG HDR game tone mapping Comment from : saad saif |
I also tried HGIG on Nano863pa and noticed that on PS5 hdr calibration screen it greatly trims hdr range For example first screen - 5 clicks with HGIG tone mapping on and sun symbol is invisible VS same scenario and it takes 15 click with tone mapping off The image quality is somewhat messed up with hgig on my TV Comment from : Andrew Vorobej |
How to know which game support HGiG, or We should set the HGiG for all the games? Comment from : Lemurian Gamer |

If you want the console to do the tone mapping and not the tv, why don't you just turn dtm OFF on the TV setting? Comment from : sykeosis mofo |
HGIG is litteraly no different to HDR tone mapping off Not one game supports HGIG Comment from : Fewgee |
If it analyses the metadata of the entire screen as one image, isn't this test screen that contains three different environments a horrible test case to show DTM? Comment from : lgolem09l |
I just got my A95K and it’s weird DTM is just way darker both in Gradation Preferred and Brightness Preferred, brighter with everything off it’s weird Comment from : Justin |
Man fuck the clouds I want to see the enemies in the dark! Comment from : Jeremy Eden |

I tried HGIG for the past month and it’s wayyyyy too dark for me on PS5 Much happier to just have hdr on! Colors and sunlight actually pop in games again, it was soooooo dull before Comment from : Victor W |
Once i got used to HGIG i've never gone back to DTM It looks more accurate and natural with more realistic contrast Comment from : Baba Yaga |
U will die in call of duty if HGig is enable lol Comment from : Kevin Saeed |
Some games I find benefit more than others REVillage so far seems to benefit greatly from HGIG, but other games like Destiny 2 and Elden Ring I find are so much nicer with tone mapping It all depends on preference I suppose, and also let's face it, some game devs really don't put as much effort into HDR Comment from : wisherboy25 |
So if the game is not HGIG compliant, should we still be using it Or should we be using DTM instead, when the game is not HGIG compliant? IMO HGIG looks dark not sure should it be used Also what games are HGIG compliant, is there a link that we can research this Comment from : Rick |
What should I use on a nano85? I play fps games in 120hz exclusively and always used dynamic tone mapping on since the nano85 is pretty bad and has low max nits Should I try hgig and just crank the brightness if it's too dim? Comment from : Alex Stachura |

banged from behind, first time I ever heard Vinny T laugh at his joke Comment from : patjcoan |
So a TLDR version of this is:brbrDynamic Tone Mapping ON: TV dynamically changes its tone mapping depending on whats on the screenbrDynamic Tone Mapping OFF: TV applies its own tone mapping curve, statically and regardless of whats on the screenbrHGIG On: TV applies no dynamic tone mapping and maps the luminance level to exactly what the HDR metadata is Meaning everything over its peak brightness will be clipped at that luminance level Comment from : Nivek |
6:56 "Crass jokes"brWhat crass jokes?br14:17 - Oh, I see Comment from : Goatlips |

HGiG is the way to go as long as it works correctly In some games picture is too dark and it crashes blacks So for daylight gaming and games that doesn't benefit from HGiG I would just stick to the tone mapping Comment from : Kac309 |

I've tested Detroit become human on PS5 with hgig and dynamic tone mapping off and it looks exactly the same, even the ingame brightness calibration looks exactly the samebrbrNormally I would use hgig but game mode does not allow motion interpolation so i'm using cinema mode which does not have hgig The motion interpolation is a complete game changer for 30fps games (at least in Detroit it is) Comment from : flako92zan |

Thanks Vincent Your the one ring to rule them all Comment from : Matthew Parrish |

In my experience with using HGIG with my CX in a nutshell:brDim the entire game by 20-30 to slightly increase detail in the sky/clouds/sun/certain light sourcesbrbrI just leave DTM on, a punchier image is just better to look at Fuck "accuracy" and creative intent Comment from : stipeslol |

On PC if i use NVidiaHDR it tonemaps the metadata but if i enable windows hdr from settings it clips after 600nit on my displayhdr600 monitor So i guess the windows implementation is just like the HGiG therefore it's better to enable windows hdr before launching the game even if it's not necessary Comment from : musicx xa |
I have a 65 CX noticed this on resident evil 2 on my ps4 pro Looking at the lamps in the police station HGIG showed it true to life while DTM blew ip everything Comment from : Syedz Gaming |

I set 1000 nits mastering peak in the secret menu and on ps5 the difference in calibration of HDR compared Dynamic Tone-Mapping On to HGIG was 16 clicks vs 14 until it disappears completely, or 15 clicks with a tiny circle visibility vs 14 clicks with a disappears completely I propose to conduct tests on this matter (Dynamic on _vs_hgig) Comment from : Xevorg |
