I didn't realize this but for a long time now, I've been so comfortable being alone that I often tend to push people away It's so hard for me to create an intimate bond with people, especially a romantic partner and I just wanna be alone when anything goes wrong

I just recently found a therapist who was able to identify my avoidant attachment style and I'm both relieved to have language to talk about it and so incredibly sad for my inner child, who I had no idea was hurt like this Now for the phase of scouring the internet for my community ❤

But no one healthy/securely attached wants an Avoidant (dismissive or fearful) You cant have deep intimacy with them They have very poor coping mechanisms in the face of comflict/emotions — They shutdown, pull away, bavoid/b conflict (which is ironic since all relationships will have conflict), and They do Not communicate their feelings/needs in a CLEAR, DIRECT way Its like their internal state is messy, so what comes out is a cryptic vagueness that will keep a partner confused and on high alert They stress their partners out with their avoidance and dismissals Cant have healthy relationships with them Yet they date with surface level connections, flirt, waste time of those who are secure

Crying and being too sensitive or emotional was frowned upon and mocked in my family growing up It was considered a weakness Whenever my feelings were hurt and i cried as a child i taunted and laughed at by my brothers and cousins So i had to learned to self soothe and deal with how i was feeling on my own NO ONE offered emotional support

I remember the words they used specifically: "if youre going to start crying go cry in the bathroom and dont come out until youre done crying" I never realized the impact that had on me my whole life until right this moment
