2:01 - This is why I don’t like myself 😞 I can’t even begin to explain how many (not all) of my co-workers (who are more dominant, bully personality types) take full advantage of these very things and LOVE IT and encourage the negative behavior within myself Up until I call the loudest mouth of the group out when they’re alone! But that only happens when they take it too far!

I genuinely HATE the fact that she wouldn't tell her patient what the problem is, that she would refuse to name the issue to this poor person who comes for help Of course the name is not everything, but it's a focus point Telling someone "I think you have THIS and THESE are the traits that you show" would be immensely helpful for that person's life, so that every time one of these behaviors shows up, they can identify them as what they are instead of constantly asking themselves WTF is going on You might think it's not necessary but to some of us putting "a face" to the problem is VERY helpful I stopped going to my therapist after more than 10 years because she would refuse to call a spade a spade You have no idea of the amount of frustration she left me in And hearing these two agreeing on this same behavior is revolting

Been going back and forth in my head for 6 years about avpd since i was diagnosed bpd Very recently been told i have ocd and social anxiety and no bpd, but i know its much more pervasive and what i experience probably cant be truely catagorized as anxiety Its just how it feels I think its so important as a patient to report on the right things I realise now that what ive been calling anxiety just doesnt describe its depth I think i developed this over time I probably once had social anxiety and now its much worse with more ocd features

When the video mentions the lack of public awareness of avoidant personality disorder, I remember that whenever I mentioned my fear of doing things in front of people, people would say that they were just as shy as I was when they were teenagers It's true that I know I can improve my social skills a little over time, but in many ways I'm not like them When I decided to listen to them and ignore my problem, I realized that I was not getting better

As someone with avoidant personality I disagree with this idea that we are hindered in growth and curiosity We are normal people, and are very curious We are so capable, we learn and understand anything and everything we want, without anyone knowing Also we usually watch and see everything and understand everything anyone does around us As far as not sharing any of this, it could come down to not trusting other’s need to be constantly validated by using people

I ghosted myself from existence against my will I discovered information about AvPD on my on in the internet and it had a strong correspondence with my issues… So, I guess I might be one of those people who comes to the clinic and says: Hey, I think I have AvPD… lol

I was almost sure I had AvPD until a year ago, after months of therapy and SSRI medication for GAD and dysthymia with major depressive episodes, I was finally diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder (which made a lot of sense and I accept myself as autistic) From that I was getting a lot betterbrbrBUT this year I've seen a decline in my mental health and I learnt you don't have to choose between an autism diagnosis and a personality disorder, you can have bothbrbrAs many traits on me are pervasive, those strong avoidant personality traits in me were back on the table in therapy and now I'm a candidate for an AvPD diagnosis, being at the same time autisticbrbr#HowLongOLord

My mother was a tyrant that emotionally abused me and critisised everything about me I was heavily bullied at school to the point it broke my whole personality So I am an avoidant I don't open to anyone because I'm afraid to be emotionally hurt I believe I will never open up to anyone

The part about about missing out on life hit me so hard because I feel like other ppl my age (I’m in my 20’s) are all in meaningful relationships, traveling, living their lives and I feel like I’m behind and not enjoying my life

Who decided what a normal, successful personality is? There are billions of people on this planet; different personality types exist Unless someone is trying to harm others or themselves, leave them alone Labels do more harm than good

I have an intellectual disability and am socially inept, awkward As a result I became fearful of saying the wrong thing, hurting peoples feelings, not showing enuf interest or too much interest in others Bottom line fearful of not being proper and acting the right way among others Diagnosed autism with intellectual disability and social pragmatic communication disorder Been abused and bullied all my life because I haven't got the knack of social skills I don't know eye contact either I don't want to make people uncomfortable I tried but never improved socially Oddly as I am very old, I am less fearful and more forward socially but I think it is not good for others because of my ineptitude Thank you for the video I didn't fit those symptoms but I am here to learn
