Just did this, and it worked great for the Memory temperatures, but my hotspot is still out of control as before Before doing this mod, my temperatures were:brGPU - 90cbrMEM - 90cbrHotspot - 104cbrbrAfter this mod, and 3 attempts at squishing further (the die side has no more squishing possible), they are:brbrGPU - 86cbrMEM - 72cbrHotspot - 105cbrbrBased on the posts by another person, I'll be trying the15mm ultimate gelid and report back the results to see if this solves my hotspot issue For reference, I ordered my 3080 FE on 9-24-2020 I used Gelid Extreme 20mm on the front (core side) and Gelid Extreme 30mm on the rear side (backplate)

Hello, i put 2mm thermal pads on my rtx 3080 FE (die side) and it was too thick cause my cpu temperature up to 80°C ! Got my 3080 in December of 2021 The 2mm/3mm pads are both too thick for my GPU First attempt had good memory contact, bad die contact After compressing the pads it was slightly worse than stock temps Only after getting 15mm pads on the front did I get expected temp drop (80c mem load) Would recommend 2mm pads for the rear as my backplate is swelling a little bit in the centerbrbrtldr: my new gpu (dec 2021) needs 15/2mm pads for front and back, instead of 2/3mm

Important information brbrGelid have changed manufacturing with the extreme pads they ain't as soft as before and when this video was made brbrI confirmed this I first repadded 3080fe over a year ago with 2mm extreme gelid pads and they worked great no issues with hotspot and great vram temps brbrSo recently I decided to try new pack of 2mm extreme gelid pads on same card and got really high hotspot , even just feeling the pads they don't feel as soft anymore it's very noticeablebrbrDid again with 15mm gelid ultimate and solved it delta is 10c

20mm front did not work for 3080 Ti FE, the die cannot contact the cooler properly so the die temperature is a lot higher nowbrbrbryes used the same gelid extreme 20mm for front and 30mm for back

I just changed thermal pads on my 2 3080 FEs and here is what I found: one had a date of 2021 on it and 15mm pads worked, the other one was from 2020 and 15mm didn't work, I swapped to 2MM and boom, temps dropped

So I followed the thermal pads step by step however I did not use MX-4 thermal paste, I used Noctua NT-H2 thermal paste Lowered my memory temps by 25 degrees but also raised my GPU temps by 25 Is this normal or does the thermal paste make that much of a difference? Has anyone tried using thinner pads like pads, like maybe 15 in front and 20 in back?

Always spread thermal paste when you're applying it to directly to a die It is possible to kill the GPU if one part is bare

Word of caution, if you have the models, 3080 FE late 2021, use 2mm on both sides (Extreme Gelid) I tried 15 and it would not do any contact in the front side

Just finished using the exact pad Brand and sizes you recommended (3mm for the back, 2mm for the front The pads were way too thick The GPU backplate was bowing, and when i powered the card up it immediately spiked to over 100C while idle I took apart and the 2mm pads for the front were so thick that the coldpate was not contacting the GPU die at all I would not recommend these pad sizes, I will be looking for another video

I replaced mine yesterday and vrams temps were improved but now my gpu hotspot temps are elevated Waiting on gelid 15 mm ultimate and extreme to come in and try those on the front side I noticed my heatsink is a silver color like aluminum instead of the bronze copper color in the video Not sure if this would make a difference

2mm gelid extreme is not the right size It increased my core temp by more than 10°c I reopened thrice, added ridiculous amount of mx4 paste and tried pressing down the pads No help Mem temps down to 82-84 but GPU goes upto to 65 on mining and 85c on gaming loadbrbrThis may be that the new coolers are common for 3080ti and 3080fe which uses 15mm, not sure though My date on the cooler was oct 21

Phew Just finished up and was fairly sure I messed something up But vram temps dropped 28c, and in turn die temps dropped about 5-6c Literally saved my GPU as it was starting to artifact at 106c, but I couldn’t get it to run any lower than that Would have had to sell it I’ll be finding a way to donate!

I think there is something different to the recent 3080fe , the 2mm extreme gelid don't seem to work gives really high gpu / hotspot so heatsink isn't making good contact with gpu die , also I noticed on the heatsink it's dated 2022 maybe newer revision ? Can't find stock of 15mm extreme gelid so just ordered 15mm ultimate hopefully that solves it brbrI also did 3080fe around 7 months ago and that was fine with 2mm gelid extreme pads great vram and GPU tempsbrbrSo I have re done all the die side with 15mm gelid ultimate and it has solved the issues getting great temps now on vram and gpu delta stays solid 10c, So either the heatsink has been changed or gelid have changed something with the extreme pads ?

I attempted this mod after experiencing poor hashrate with my card I used the recommended pads, front and back, measurements too, but the card reported poor temps I attempted this update a couple times, thinking it was me, not the product I squished the hell out of the 20 pad with no luck I only received satisfactory temps and full hashrate once I lowered the pad size to 15 mm on the front side Now gpu reports 49 C with a 966 MH/s Point of this, not all cards will play nice with 20 mm on the front side Happy updating

I only repadded and repasted the front side with 2mm gelid extreme and thermal grizzly kryonautbrI only got a drop of about 8C from 104C to 96C while mining eth It's better, but I was hoping to see sub 80 or at least sub 90sbrI'll try doing the back as well with some 3mm, but not sure if that would help much since vram is on the front onlybrbrEDIT:brDid the back, and mem temps dropped another 4C to 92C

I have a 3080 Ti, used gelid extreme, and thermal grizzly kryonaught I was so worried about that one ribbon cable Also note that it will be a little different for people who have a 3080 Ti, I used ALL of my 20 mm on the front no waste, and had to really change how I cut it up Make sure to cover the extra 2 memory modules that aren’t covered in this video on the front and back! I’d advise using tiny squares instead of those thin strips to help save on thermal pads In the end I started mining and temps were great! I did however notice that my core temps were going higher than they used to After adjusting my fan curve to be more aggressive (my fans now run at about 86 when mining) I’m sitting at 54 on the core and 80 on the men temps Down from 59 on the core, and 102 on the memory

Followed this with the suggested 20 extream on the front GPU and Memory seemed great but the second i fired anything up the hotsopt went to 100 plus what should i be looking for to correct this? Worked perfectly, running the card memory slightly faster on a higher power level(101Mh/s) and my memory temperatures are now at 88 down from 104, GPU is slightly hotter, but suspect that's due to the fans now running slower and extra heat from memory chips
