For me it just means not buying anything unless I really need it and I got rid of a lot of stuff I hadn’t used or even looked at in years And got rid of it in the most sustainable ways possible And that’s all it means What has beige got to do with it? 😂🙄 Comment from : @kensiblonde4203 |
Leading a minimalist life is a private matter and a matter of taste, and is therefore nobody's business So it is pointless to discuss it Comment from : @rosedewittbukater4203 |
As a minimalist, I've never understood minimalists that live in muted colored homes I love colors, no way I'm going to love in gray rooms my whole life Minimalism doesn't have to be boring Comment from : @VeeBowman |
I use e-commerce delivery cardboard boxes to store all kinds of stuff Most of them are pretty sturdy & any minor wear and tear could be fixed with tape If they become too busted I'll just throw them away & use boxes from my next shipment Comment from : @ericduan19 |
I did see you use your home but somehow it always looks like no one lives here, it's like a home ready for instagram from point 1, down to colors of home Comment from : @hpswf1 |
Making lesser videos is, well, being a minimalist Comment from : @onechristianwallace |
I have a Ganesh lunchbox that is our "tape" storage (packing tape, scotch tape, masking tape, etc) I'm learning minimalism is more about how I feel about my things than how many things I have Yea? I mean, it's more about my thinking than it really is about my stuff Comment from : @monicaflynn6469 |
You got me at Naruto's lunchbox Comment from : @fiorelalsv |

To really "reduce environmental impact" Americans should stop voting for people like Tramp He did so much damage to this planet's climate that all American minimalists together can't outweigh the harm Comment from : @JEC |
I don't understand why every minimalist has to to have a monochromatic white or beige house? It looks boring and depressing You can have a few items, I get it, but why can not they be at least a little bit beautiful? No individuality or attempt for design, same beige/grey/white housing It is too extreme Especially when child's toys and clothes are also all dull beige this is borderline abusive to the child already, this is sick Comment from : @JEC |
My husband's kind of 'non-aesthetic' from a minimalist standpoint, but I'm not getting rid of him ;) Comment from : @goddessmel8518 |
What an insightful and interesting video ☺️ thank you, well done - and also seing the minimalist framrs of your flat in the back is quite soothing to the mind I have to admitbrI personally don‘t see minimalsm as my goal but want to reduce the amount of items I have and store/ organise better as I dislike visual clutter and also don‘t like losing overview of the items I have, not finding them when I need them etc Comment from : @s-anyon |
I definitely feel that it’s not just minimalism that kind of attacks family life and tells you that you’re a bad person if you want to get married and have children I come from a social space that’s very “children suck and ruin your life and people who have them will suffer abs they will deserve it” I always kind of just shrugged it off but yeah I couldn’t do that after I got pregnant My “best friend” giggled when I said I was very sick and almost died on the delivery table Avoid crazy people with extreme ideologies like this Sometimes it’s hard to see because they hide behind sanctimonious attitudes like buying ethical items or voting for the betterment of vulnerable people And while those things are great there is always a dark side to it And giggling in the face of a woman who almost died along with her own newborn daughter is just the start of it Comment from : @hazelequinox6927 |
Aesthetic it is in the eyes of the looker minimalism NOT necessarily beautiful Comment from : @MaePhilippe-Levy |

I just ordered a smaller refrigerator to save money on my power bill It is retro and bright red I know I should have opted for a neutral color like silver, white or black, but I just don't care Bring on the minimalist shaming attempts! Comment from : @heartland297 |
Thank you ! this was soo reassuring and insightful ! Comment from : @maelleamand |

I'm sure that lady that lost all those stuff, only looked at it when she was getting rid of it she would have never opened old letters or sentimental items other than the day she decided to let them go Comment from : @Photoram405 |
Wow! I didn’t expect this video to make me cry The things you said about being a content creator and comparing yourself to other content creators really spoke to me I try hard to create helpful content on my channel and it can be hard not to compare myself to others when I’m not able to upload as often So thank you so much for sharing that and for being very honest I subscribed and I’m looking forward to watching more of your videos! Comment from : @LauraLegge |

Russia occupied my city after almost completely destroying it We left home with nothing and the only thing I cried for was a stupid Christmas hat😒 People are complex, it’s a huge mistake to fit yourself, the living and the real, into ideal concepts of what you should be Think about values and decide based on your own importance Thank you for the video Comment from : @helgasq |
I also think it’s also really important to remember that becoming minimalist is a way of declutterring and removing things that no longer serve you But… if something sentimental still serves you even if it’s only occasionally, it’s fully ok to keep those things Just organize and store out of site and retrieve when you need them You don’t have to have a completely empty home to be minimal ❤❤❤ Comment from : @KickinitWithKarla |
Being vegan has same extreme cult Thankyou for ridding the extreme minimalist cult A path that is zen for the whole family is the best path Thankyou for sharing so much of yourself, it helped me be strong since I feel you cried for me ❤ Comment from : @shannahsnyder5653 |

Yeah we have evolved over the years to need more things like computers, stereos, cars, and a multitude of other things that didn't exist 150 years ago I really like the minimalist approach but yeah don't want to take it to extremes either Everything in balance! Comment from : @ScarletEyeMoon |

Yes, those bare homes look like no one lives there!! They are depressing to me as as an individual- maybe not to all, I understand that But all gray, white, beige completely bare surfaces are just not pretty (to me) Comment from : @mssherlockh9981 |
I am a bit of a hoarder, so there is some work to do on myself regarding that But neither minimalism is for me I do crafting and you wouldn't believe what items can come handy My walls are getting populated with results of my skills and I find it positive I do declutter a bit from time to time though Cancer research charity is my first to go to to spare myself of unwanted items Comment from : @DvonN |
I’m not sure if I am a minimalist yet I don’t want to have other people define it for me I just want to live comfortably and simply Be more intentional with my purchases moving forward and enjoy being able to keep my home a calm and relaxing space that I can enjoy and not feel I need to escape from with retail therapy brI want my home to be easy to clean, ready for visitors at a moments notice and when I pass away (as morbid as it sounds), not have my family have to go through what I did with my parents belongings (mother passed, father had a big stroke) The less I have, the better I feel, I’m starting to slow down my decluttering so I can find the right ‘balance’ I don’t want to be a maximalist but I also find no desire in being an extreme minimalist and counting how many belongings so own Comment from : @KsoPlans |
I agree with you And I guess I shouldn't be surprised that there are people who take this to extremes That's a problem we have right now, too much black vs white and not enough of the Middle Way (The Golden Mean) Comment from : @muth7813 |
Thank you for sharing brI made most of these mistakes Some are too late to reverse, like getting rid of things that cannot be replacedbrI am now trying to see minimalism as a means to an end rather than an end in itselfbrThe end I want to achieve is a healthy lifestyle in a clean, orderly, calming spacebrNot there yet, but that is the dream Comment from : @albertlamar5938 |
I have no intent, or even desire, to be a minimalist What I strive to do, and what I think is more realistic for many of us to actually achieve, is to have a home with more INTENTION and PURPOSE in how we live and what we purchase For everyone this will look different For myself, part of this is higher quality items that will stand the test of time and not have to be replaced quickly The sofa we currently have is 4 years old and was under $300 and falling apart (and lasted WAY longer than we thought it would, honestly, but has never been comfortable, we always hated it, and it started falling apart almost immediately We were just stubborn and refused to replace it 'too' quickly we bought it, we were going to live with it, dang it!) We purchased a new one just the other day (to be delivered in a month), a high quality leather one, that should last a VERY VERY long time and stand up to our lifestyle It was purposed with INTENT and PURPOSE Sometimes, the money spent isn't the issue, it is the quality of the item and how long it will last vs how quickly you will have to replace (and therefore add to the landfill issue) a cheaper one Comment from : @1DebbiesWorld |

I prefer a mix of simple-ism and minimal-ism with an emphasis on simple Comment from : @srsly5570 |

Im so minimalist i dont even get rid of anything i just ignore it Comment from : @aqrobeats2417 |

Random leftover jars for the win Wabi-sabi is my esthetic, not nasty dull grey that is popular Mismatched everything Perfection! Comment from : @marshwetland3808 |
I very much hate the neutral minimalist aesthetic (i wont judge you if you like it though) Its too depressing for me I have adhd and if your personal environment is your mind, I cant have my space neutral and minimal Comment from : @pastellatte2006 |
It's all about balance Comment from : @user-ww2wr6ku5x |

I like using Ball jars for everything… but they are all different sizes and are reused from the canning of veggies! Comment from : @mhvosteen |
The privilege part is so true! The fact that a person can get rid of alot of things and not be affected by it while others can’t afford to do that is something I always keep in mind Comment from : @dillinrivera91 |
I have 8 pans for stovetop use and about 10 baking pans I refuse to go with less And 2 colanders One of them, I keep it because it's pretty It doesn't do the best job, but I like the color Comment from : @candyrose3651 |
I'm trying to be a minimalist and my PC has been the best tool to have in my decluttering journey I have way too much sentimental item for the size of my room as my hobby in electronics also take up lots of space brI photographed most of my sentimental item and only save a handfull left Archive it in my 1TB HHD and backup once a year I'm considering photogrametry so I can store it as an 3D object so I can view it in VR in the future Comment from : @Leviathan0707 |
I just keep what I need or use all the time Comment from : @scruf153 |
You are a beautiful woman! Thank you for sharing your past What you are doing is Truly helping others Including myself ❤ Comment from : @patyoung9412 |
I'm actually a Maximalist but I have grown to appreciate Minimalism I think its important to find balance in your life Not by comparing yourself to others but by making choices that help you move forward in life I really like the message in this video I don't intend to become a minimalist but I do value what I have learned from minimalism and I will be applying what I have learned from your channel to my everyday life, in the interest of being more balanced 😊 So, thank you for this video and for your content! Comment from : @hellenabanner1561 |

Yeah, I am all for the aesthetic minimalist, if that is their thing and they are not hurting anyone including the planet I usually do not call myself a minimalist, but many people who know me do call me a minimalist Kind of the walk like a duck thing Anyways, I am an environmentalist, and having less stuff tends to mean less stuff needs to be manufactured, and less harmful chemicals in the air, water and soil I watch a lot of minimalist channels due to this reason I also tend towards minimalistic behaviors (See how I did that, I have some minimalistic behaviors) because they make my life easier Less stuff means I can find the stuff I want to find in my apartment easier, I am a guy and guys lose stuff because we are doing so much important thinking about the past and the future that we cannot be bothered by the present Anyways to you question I give only a little bit of thought about what my apartment looks like, I do want it to look clean and organized, but I do not think I would ever make the appearance of one of my household items ever more than a tie breaker I would gladly take the useful item over the beautiful yet useless Mainly, I spend a lot of time trying to figure out how much I want the item before I buy it, and I try to see if there is another way to get my want fulfilled without getting the item, or even try to change the want to a different want, kind of a want exchange Comment from : @Joseph2day |
Wow, I am glad to know I helping reduce my carbon footprint so much by owning clothes from highschool and college :) (I am in my 40's, and they fit and I wear them) Isn't the point of minimalism- to own a minimum of items that you need/want, to have less stuff? Do what is good for you Thank you for sharing your story and emotions Comment from : @jessicaadale |

My adult daughter has a wooden toy box that her Dad built for her and she has all her childhood toys in it She still has all of her My Little Ponys, and she wouldn't part with them for anything She still has the metal lunchbox she used in kindergarten Comment from : @teresaharris-travelbybooks5564 |
When I was a teenager, my best friend lived in a minimalist household She was only allowed a record player, a few records, a magazine or two that had to be discarded when she was finished reading them, and her few clothes I always felt depressed when I visited at her house It was not a loving environment Comment from : @teresaharris-travelbybooks5564 |
Thank you for what you do And thank you for how you so vulnerably share your journey I appreciate so much you being willing to look at this from all sides This honestly makes it seem more attainable to me and also gives me space to make it my own rather than beating myself up for striving for a style of minimalism that doesn't suit me or my family Thank you for giving us permission to pursue minimal but still be individuals (That may sound silly, "permission", but it's so easy, like you say, to get caught up in the aesthetics) Keep doing what you're doing! ❤ Comment from : @jessicacervantesferguson173 |

Thanks for touching on socioeconomic status and mental/physical ability My struggle feels more valid somehow Comment from : @jaelithecrislip9151 |

I never feel like I need to get rid of family items that hold memories, but we don't need to keep grandma's old cutting board or kitchen gadgets It's mostly all the random supplies of containers, baskets, bags, glass jars, or other stuff that may be "useful" at some point that we need to just get rid of We also have hobbies and supplies for projects, but we can't keep everything Comment from : @HarmonicWave |
I hope you find this tip useful One way of letting things go is to take pictures of stuff you dont need its physical presence of once in a while u can look back at the pics of these items and they ll give you the same feeling of nostalgia even when the physical items have been sold or donated Comment from : @terencew3840 |
I would love to hear more from Mr Zen on how he maintains his minimalism despite growing up with very little I've seen people who grew up with little become hoarders for fear of it happening again They have the scarcity mindset How did Mr Zen avoid that? Comment from : @sphuang6014 |
Great video Thanks for sharing your ideas about what is really toxic about obssesions and stupid ideas like creating an empty space in your home and not being able tu use it I love white colours, pale tones I love minimalism, but! I always prefer usefulness and functionality over "sofistication"; specially if you have pets, a baby, a family, I mean we live our lives, not only for instagram Cheers!! Comment from : @julietalores5652 |

I could be wrong, but most of what you do and don't consider minimalism, actually isbrKeeping a naruto lunchbox that is being used, doesn't stop following minimalism just because it's not monochromatic Comment from : @rodrigoruiz976 |

A true minimalist treats other peoples opinions about your minimalism minimally Comment from : @groooobytooby1306 |
This is so interesting I am not a minimalist, I am too much of a dragon to be a minimalist, but I found this information very interesting because I've NEVER seen or heard anyone talk about the dark side of minimalism and I've always wondered and thought there had be, there is a dark side to everything, so all these points made so much sense! Just so fascinating Thank you for sharing! Comment from : @cosmicrusalka |
Anything ending in -ism should be treated with cautionbrFind something useful in the -ism, but don't absorb it as a way of life or religionbrbrDogma is not your friend :)brThe dictionary tells you what minimalism is, not random people of unknown intelligence Comment from : @EveryoneWhoUsesThisTV |

One good thing to add to the list is that minimalism also becomes toxic when it becomes a factor that determines a person's goodness and human dignity in society For example, in the Nordic countries, minimalism has been raised as a valued virtue and it has become common to say in media and conversations that a person is not good and valuable if he does not pursue a deeper and deeper minimalism That's why I've grown to get tired of the direction that Nordic minimalism has gone after becoming common and popularized Comment from : @danielmalinen6337 |
