I have a question So I have an emotionally abusive family I often go to therapy and my therapist is encouraging me to look at them from a place of empathy and sometimes I differ on that in that this gives the abuser room to explain why they are the way they are and excuses their behavior Do you think that empathy works in this sense?

Absolutely, my entire family are Narcs but my Mom is the worst of them all I didn't know the term coercive control but that's exactly what she does, and allmost every tactic that you mentioned in this video

Oh my God just I'm in the end of the video you describe my stepmother in the best way but my sisters do not see it I don't know I'm 3500 miles away it is upsetting but I had to block my dad he gave me an anxiety and a lot of other things This is not to say that my dad got married remarried after my mom's death on this woman is so I am happy for him because he did what he wanted to however this woman has made my life miserable so ever since I blocked her I feel so much better is that the phase? I had to update my will because I'm going to surgery and PTSD once a week and I got to drive to Anchorage which means I can't up and back it because it's going to be dark we're getting about 5 hours of daylight I've been down there on vacation five different times the first time I gave her of an expensive piece of jewelry, but the next year I gave her another piece of jewelry instead of saying oh this is really nice thank you for thought she just brushed It Off She kept begging for another piece of this particular Stone and I said it took me 3 years to gather up seven pieces of match and that was not cheap he's all about the money my dad's a gopher but she has isolated everybody from him makes me sad but listening to your podcast or whatever you want to call it I've learned a lot of insight I am and I thank you very much and sorry for the long post You're my therapist until my other therapist can see me she wouldn't ask me the same questions every single year just so she could get a bite out of me or tear down my wall I have but she never will she never will but in my mind doesn't want to finger to do anything it's my dad doesn't he's 87

My stepmother is like that very narcissistic and she fits the categories you are talking about I just blocked them on my phone I did make some phone calls to his friends who were no longer his friends because of who this woman is it is sad very very sad very hard to process through your videos I am learning

I was just watching a video not related to narcissism and from it, i may have one possible answer to this question, maybe it is "the need to be needed" In the video i'm watching, he used the way the WEF/elites are creating a problem (a fictitious one, aka covid) to provide the solution - which is them/more government/more gov't entanglement with big business, to keep us on a loop of dependency So, ultimately, power and control WHY a family member would want to control another, just to be needed or relevant, i guess results from a lack in themselves
