Seasonic Modular 750 watt, or Corsair HX are both top notch, what GPU config are you running? if you can settle for 600 Watt, Power & Cooling 600 Watt Modular is a great bargain Comment from : Steven Bely |
depends on your system, are you running discrete graphics card? Typically, the better quality PSU's begin around 400 Watt Look for quality brands like Seasonic, Corsair, Power & Cooling Ideally, 5 yr warrantyjust avoid the cheapo's from the big box stores Comment from : Steven Bely |
Linus, you mentioned that you prefer placing the PSU with fan facing up? Even in a case with PSU position on bottom, with air filter ( ie Obsidian 800) Would that not encourage hot air from case entering unit rather than cool air from under the case? I assume you are doing this to prevent dust intake? Please clarify? Comment from : Steven Bely |
a single strong rail just means you don't have a choice more than one strong rail means that you have a choice it also of course means that you have more parts in the ps that can fail but i personally prefer 2 12 volt quality rails, efficiency goes down, but ability to run consistently at the max ratted wattage in the long term goes up Comment from : kght222 |
@jurassic512 Why you bitching at yourself? Comment from : HolyShitAccess |

@DeadeyeDH it almost sounds like it could be a standard unit of measurement Comment from : javelinxd44 |

@KiruzA42 Grade 11 Physics comes in useful Comment from : Divide By Zer0 |
@LouwrensStassen What I meant to say is that since you are dealing with a few fixed voltage output values overcurrent protection is the bigger dealTherefor overpower protection really is overcurrent protection Usually a voltage ripple on the input of about 5 percent is considered normal Comment from : cmdstraker |
The was cable in the box when you moved it out of the way So there were as many cables as the the power supply had ports Comment from : Suiken_2mieu |
@greysmoke321 max trollin Comment from : Kieran Sulikosky |

ha ha I think you might confuse some people with having the brackets on that math (180/100) * 44 Or to make it simpler, 180 * 44 Good thing your around to show the light to some :) Comment from : toonygamer2004 |

@marouanebenouzekri
your current motherboard only supports a few years old cpu
It would be better to save up money for a couple years to just buy a whole new computer (new mobo, cpu, gpu etc)
But an E8400/Q9650 with a midrange gpu like a GTX570 or AMD 6850/70 will still allow you to play upcoming games on high settings for quite a while (couple years at least)
I'm guessing that you likely have a GTX 9800 or 260 based on the current age of your CPU
Comment from : Ice&Fire |
@marouanebenouzekri
Ok, so also mention this:
You have an older motherboard, so your limited to using the Q9000 series intel CPUs They are still very good and capable CPUs for playing games at mid-high settings on a 1080p screen But they are also not anything near a current i7's power
Your best bet is to save money by getting a midrange card (you can get a discount on amd 6850/70 or gtx570 when the 600 series comes out)
No point getting a very pwoerful gpu when you Comment from : Ice&Fire |

Alot of engineering branches know ohms law too Comment from : FME |

@KiruzA42 what kind of engineer are you? Comment from : TheMaristBoy |

over power may mean overcurrent and overvoltage Comment from : Thomas |
@marouanebenouzekri yes it is it may be even enough for 2 gpu's running off one system Comment from : Diego |
@Peanutsreveng3 uhm well this PSU is basically a re-named SeaSonic S12II / M12II, just like Antec's HCG-series, few Corsair PSUs etc Comment from : Anton Kochubey |

@marouanebenouzekri
To sum it up for you, Save your money for Ivy Bridge, if you don't plan on upgrading your CPU (E8400) anytime soon, anything like a GTX 580 / AMD 6870 is overkill since your CPU is bottlenecking your GPUs full potential
If you want a good GPU for the future go ahead and get the GTX580/AMD6870/7870, but you need to be thinking of upgrading your CPU, otherwise by the time you upgrade your CPU, Haswell and GTX 700 / AMD 8000 will be out
Hope this helps Comment from : Ice&Fire |
@marouanebenouzekri
The GTX is $700-800
Unless your a enthusiast gamer, the very high-end dual GPU is probably overkill for you
Get the GTX 580, or wait for 600 series, or get the 7870 for $500
Also with your E8400, having such a highend graphics card wont be worth it (so current CPU will bottleneck its full potential
I have an i7 930 with 5870, if I got the 5970 at the time, my 930 would still have been a bottleneck
You would need a new system if you wanted high-end Comment from : Ice&Fire |
@marouanebenouzekri AMD 6870 IMO if your on a budget Costs $150-200 and rocks all dx11 games on a decent resolution Comment from : Alex S |
@marouanebenouzekri depends on the card Comment from : jeffs_ |
@marouanebenouzekri
Again, to be on the safe side, get a little higher PSU, 700W to 800W, they are literally $30 to 50 more expensive
You don't want to keep buying PSU everytime you make an upgrade, so get a decent one with lots of headroom for unforseen upgrades down the road Play it safe Comment from : Ice&Fire |
@marouanebenouzekri
Depends what graphics card your looking at For midrange to low range (say GTX 540-560) is sufficient
GTX 570/580 or AMD 6870 etc recommend at least 500-550 To be safe, if your going with a high-end GPU, make the investment in a 800W, just to be on the safe side Comment from : Ice&Fire |
Is that a Baby Crib i see there 2:55 Comment from : Knyterror |

@ambrodji thank you Comment from : TheCoconutCookie |

Engineer here Ohm's law can be manipulated such that P (power) equals the square of i (current) times r (resistance) Since resistance is a constant, power is directly proportional to the square of current and, therefore, overcurrent protection could be called overpower protection Comment from : Adam Weiner |
Hmm, would this fit in a 600t? Comment from : dokdek /ドクデク |
@LinusTechTips ur USA link is not right U provided a dead link If u remove the w and add us; u will have fixed ur problem

@AndImObama
indeed, they do have a good name, which is why I watched it, but it's still a cheap PSU
Bronze rated yea ok one cable less than there are sockets stupid and in the league of cheap POS Comment from : Peanut - INTP |

also is there any chance of you maybe adopting a rating system for your products? like a 1-10 or a 1-100 rating system that focuses execution of the products features in design? just curious Comment from : Jared W |
Linus in your opinion or in your fans opinions what is the best overall powersupply in the 700-800w range taking into account it should be modular have good length on cables a good size fan and not horribly priced any suggestions? Comment from : Jared W |
@TheInCreDIblEMaReKU Dude, he's not an operating system Comment from : Manchester Tech Guy |
Autocorrect Comment from : mareku |
Hey Linux, when did you start out with computers? Comment from : mareku |
@LouwrensStassen Since one is dealing with a 2 or 3 different voltages it means overpower is the same thing Comment from : cmdstraker |
2:14 I'd be a bit miserable if I bought this PSU and they weren't Comment from : NameTooLo |
Is there black version? links not work Comment from : MrPilotGunner |
kay buddies, power depends on voltage and current (and others things but we dont care) we all know it
What happens when you limit only wattage? you can have too high current and very low voltage or too high voltage and very low current, no good for your security
What happens when you limit current and voltage but no wattage? You ll be safe but if your PSU cannot deliver this amount of wattage, gonna have some issues
Conclusion, it's OK to limit those 3
