Thank you for this excellent video I just fixed ours with a new diaphragm thing and saved I don’t know how much in plumber fees! Just wanted to let others know that the new one will be smooth, the ridges that are on the old one are caused by it compressing into the tube, that’s what causes it to fail Thanks again Comment from : Essie Bod |

Have the same problem Think I need to call a plumber 😭 5min30 you turn the flush unit anticlockwise to unlock it On mine the whole thing moves from the base so the top half doesn't unlock as the entire thing moves Can't get a good enough grip to hold the base to stop it turning while twisting as there's so little space Comment from : Mark Rees |
Thanks, it helped me a lot Chris Scotland Comment from : C H |
Thanks for the video Add one thing: it's MUCH easier to remove the valve seal/clip with a PAIR OF PLIERS than with a screwdriver Regards, Nigel Comment from : Nigel Root |

Video really helpful but I’m not entirely sure what to actually buy…”valve, diaphragm” there seems to be millions to choose from? Comment from : Carly Burnet |
I am so pleased I came across this video I have had exactly the same issue as the one you are talking through After replacing the main flush valve (which probably needed to be replaced anyway, the water was still leaking from the inlet valve, even after holding up the plastic float which I didn’t even know was possible!!brbrAnyway, thankfully after taking a picture of your diaphragm part I went to multiple stores and all had the standard diaphragm valve which you also show (from screwfix etc) after going to my final plumbing merchant (Wolesley Plum Centre) they gave me the correct valve and like your set up, the water valve is all tiled away behind the toilet brFrom switching off the main water valve in the kitchen to replacing the diaphragm, it took about 4 minutes! Switched the water back on and now all workingbrbrYour video is very well explained for me and has probably saved me a call out fee and a replacement inlet valve, all for some inconvenience in shopping around today for the correct valve and spending £8 as I had to buy the full ideal inlet service packbrbrThank you again!!! Comment from : Marc West |
Absolutely brilliant! I was beginning to despair of finding on-line help for the same cistern setup as mine, but this was perfect TY Comment from : SJ Horse |
This video helped me out, thanks Didn't know it was so simple Shame on the parts, we have three of these, two leaked, so I picked up three, one as a spare, for the sum of £26 Comment from : AndyW |
In the longer term it might have been better to have fitted a new bottom entry inlet valve at the same time The newer models fill the cistern from the bottom of the inlet valve as opposed to the top and as a result they are much quieter - no hissing or dripping etc The advice on the flush valve washer was very good and as they only cost about a fiver it is worthwhile always keeping one at home as a spare Comment from : Alan |
Great video thanks I would suggest the Blue deposit is not caused by toilet cleaning blocks BUT its copper deposit from the plumbing in the inlet water pipe work Comment from : Jack Bate |
I put a toilet cleaner block in each three of my toilets and within a few months all three started to leak! Never again!! Comment from : R H |
Again had a problem and this video helped me big thank you Comment from : Kathleen Morris |
Very cleary explaned Thanks to that contributor I will now try to fix my leak myself rather than cann in an expensive plumber I have ordered the parts already from Wolseley and will collect and fit them tomorrow Wish me luck Comment from : Peter McGregor |
I did this yesterday Old drop valve seal had split and the rubber perished/gone tacky Problem still exists after replacing with a genuine 1967 part number seal It is different from the original as is white/opaque instead of black I cleaned the mating surface it still leaks Comment from : King of the West Midlands |

This video really helped me to get the leak issue resolved This is the first time I tried any plumbing work, your easy step by step guide allowed me to fix the issue As you said, the standard diaphragm doesn't work, so I used SV90167 which can be found online Many thanks for your help, saved lot of time and money Comment from : Satya Prasad |
Thank you You have saved me a ton of money and a headache Comment from : Steve |
Unable to take out the top of the inlet valve The whole column turns when i try to unscrew the top Unable to access the inlet valve from beneath since the toilet is fully concealed underneath Do you recommend using wrench to take the top off while holding the steel with another wrench? Comment from : Venkatesh Ramakrishnan |
Thank you I now feel confident about fixing the leaking flush valve seal because you explained everything so clearly Comment from : Ann Sinclair |
