Creativity is not a curse, it's a blessing The curse is the society that doesn't appreciate creative people and creative pursuits simply because misrepresentations of what they entail are the dominant public perception Comment from : @fraterlibertas3036 |

people turn their art into a business but not their business into an art Comment from : @lewisburton1852 |

In many ways, it's better to not be creative Just imagine moving through life while your family says you ought to quit wasting your time working on your greatest passion Or better yet, when you find a group that doesn't shut you down flat but you still only get a "Cool story bro" before they go on talking about whatever newest book just droppedbrbrCompare that to having a craft that you slowly work your way up into without having overwhelming doubts A craft that everyone can understand Working and honing this craft can only do you good It can make money and fulfill everything you need in life People automatically appreciate what you do and you appreciate the craft in returnbrbrFor most, it's an awful thing to be creative You can't turn it off and if you ignore the push, it literally eats your mind and nobody understands I hate it sometimes Comment from : @FrostedBasil |

Jordan professor ad naseum grazing around cash cowing and picking on targets today " creative people" tomorrow ? Well, for that you access his next drivel dally do Comment from : @patriciarouse16 |

|
This is something you have to explain to non-creative people: that being able to come up with good ideas is not really connected to being able to enact them The vast majority of bringing a creative idea to fruition is an extremely uncreative process, and much of it involves luck and other traditional non-creative factors Basically every product forces you to compete against a corporate behemoth with 10 million times your resources Individuals have almost no hope Comment from : @Tom-vq2hw |
|
|
According to common society, money earned is the yardstick of success On technical innovations, very few have the courage to evaluate and confirm the acveptability Most prefer to ignore unproven ideas and appreciate only proven Inventors should have good EQ also to survive Ultimately, creativity is the starting point of developments Comment from : @josemathew9087 |

"The venture capitalist is gonna eliminate the creator"brSolution: As soon as you have the idea, make it into your own business and don't forget to COPYRIGHT YOUR IDEA (company or product logo, name and the like), only AFTER THAT, accept the partnership with a venture capitalist If your product or idea is copywrited, he can never use that in your place unless he doesn't make one cent from it Comment from : @TurismoHistoricoCarioques |

why tf you just depressing the kids? every life could be observed purely by all that could go wrong and the hardships along the way Being creative is beautiful, the life is beautiful Creative people may have problems but they're CREATIVE to solve them This video only shows bad sides of the creative lifestyle, consciously avoiding all that's amazing about it, as if any life is spared of difficulties Comment from : @ablphbt |

Indeed, I agree with Jordan's sentiments, however I now apply my creativity in Financial Markets I combine the best of old school technical analysis with modern statistical algorithms to build trading algorithms and you know what?👀brbrNOTHING he said applies to me anymore! I don't need a marketing team, sales rep, venture capitalists etc NOPE 👎brbrI just apply my algorithm to the market and every time my algorithm is right I get paid in full And every time it's wrong, I incur a calculated loss Yep I'm outwitting the devil, for all my fellow Napolean Hill fans 🤗 Comment from : @gamuchiraindawana2827 |

By creating their conflicting myths, that caused and still causes infighting and killing, theologians in deed seemed to be cursed by creativity brbrFrom the book … Brewer’s Dictionary of Phrase & Fable by Ivor H Evans … First published 1817 … Odium theologicum (o di um the o loj ikim) (Lat) The bitter hatred of rival theologians No wars so sanguinary as holy wars; no persecutions so relentless as religious persecutions; no hatred so bitter as theological hatred Comment from : @junevandermark952 |

I listened to the popular (psychologist) television star Dr Phil McGraw, bragging during an interview that he is PROUD to be a Christian, and Phil seemed to believe that that was a very creative statement brbrJordan believes that as a psychologist, he is also VERY creative and he IS very creative He used his license as a psychologist to become a media sensation, just as did Dr Phil McGraw brbrBut unlike Phil McGraw Jordan's lustful creativity, was in his yearning to become a powerful PREACHER ( a media sensation) while preaching his Christian doctrine “I act as if God exists, and I’m terrified he might” Jordan Petersonbrbr“I was Jordan Peterson’s strongest supporter Now I think he’s dangerous He wanted to establish a church, he said, in which he would preach every Sunday” Author … Bernard Schiff … professor emeritus of psychology at the University of Toronto Comment from : @junevandermark952 |

What he is saying is only part of the picture True it is very difficult to make money writing, singing, inventing, doing artwork, etc However, there are other avenues to fuel your creativity, just as there are different types of creativity The key is to develop a sought after skill or acquire a degree that allows you to pursue a career in which you exercise your creativity For example, you might get a degree in marketing and invent novel marketing strategies, teaching in private schools (with no government curriculum) is a great way to devise creative lesson plans, etc Basically, you can find different ways of expressing your creative gifts and make money while you are doing it You tailor your talent to fit a congruent career Comment from : @user-ql3li9nh3d |

|
As a engineering student who is a creative person whos passion is music, it secretly pains me to see those who are genuinely passionate about a major that already has a good ROR and great job security Meanwhile, creatives have to live a life of duality, working at a job that they either are half passionate about or downright hate, but pays the bills, while relegating their true passion to the side This is the only financially viable option for many creatives, but it still sucks Comment from : @7318ify |
|
|
Creative people need connections This is why art schools are important, among other things, because you meet new people So it's very good to work on yourself spiritually, physically and mentally so you become more complete and competent person, you develop social skills, empathy etc Comment from : @gagi6294 |

very true very realistic and yet so immensely discouraging even the use of the word "curse" I take issue with I can't feed off of negativity like this sorry, I can't and, yes, I'm a creative Comment from : @nnekaedwards9270 |

Creativity is not a curse Comment from : @cmralph |

As a creative person I find Dr Peterson's naysaying to be somewhat humorous Marketing, communication etc? These are all skills that can be learned and one of the best ways to market a new product and explain what it does to people is through the use of metaphors -- something that creative people are good at due to our high capabilities in abstract thinking Comment from : @stringpuppetmaestro2804 |
|

My 7 year old daughter is definitely a creative person She's dedicated to drawing in a way I wasn't She's starting to learn piano, she's reading independently alot She's been doing this since 2 I am in awe of her creativity Comment from : @leilachristie1861 |

He left out the processes of patenting/copyrighting/trademarking, and the entire art and practice of entrepreneurship (a creative pursuit in and of itself) As much as I appreciate JP and so many of the things he puts out, I find this snippet on creativity--although fair warning for naive young people, I guess--generally a shame Why? Because so much quality of life in our future depends on creative people doing what they do well, so we need them doing it And it's not as though creative pursuits aren't worth it when you do have the right ingredients (I come from Silicon Valley and have observed close-up countless victories of creative people--hardly anything in life is more delightful) Comment from : @lynnlewis9938 |

“The most regretful people on earth are those who felt the call to creative work, who felt their own creative power restive and uprising, and gave to it neither power nor time”br-Mary Oliver Comment from : @GreenSushiPanda |
|
|
What I'm amazed by in this video is how much of a diagonal thinker JP is and that he resorted to vertical thinking when it came to identifying the challenges of lateral thinkers, ie, "creative people" The problem with creative people is that they live in a linear world of direct line processing that does not fully recognize and make use of nonlinear thinkers that have a natural propensity of letting their minds wonder and striking new ideas that haven't gone vertical yet And the major problem these 'lateral' or 'nonlinear' thinkers face is who they are because most of them have had their creative tools dulled and repressed since youth and may not be or ever be keepers of music talent, or painting talent, or writing talent Outside the box thinkers are often deemed instictively as a threat or unlogical in the dominate vertical thinking world, so lateral thinkers, unless they have discovered and understand their lateral capabilities, are left lost wondering and feel undervalued while their lateral thoughts are pushed asided for immediate logic It's freakin tough to be creative in this world! Of course all human being are creative , everyone has written a love letter to a crush as a child, everyone has told a joke they had made up, everyone has twisted in a unique way when dancing , everyone has dreamed of a better world than this When Jordan Peterson speaks of creativity, he is talking like the critical producer in Fellini’s 8 1/2 , he’s not speaking of creativity but of socio cultural significance, the power to sway Not everyone has the skill or insight to resonate in a way that creates waves of perception that ripple through society But more importantly, who controls the spigot that allows for those wave to propagate and ripple unimpeded ? And why is significance or eliteness important to him or to anyone Beyond having the ability to manage your life, be socially informed, and being politically competent what does significance give you: the power, through social comparisons, to control social order The power of cult! Creative as a singer with my own show for seniors It was a fun part time career for 23 years Now I’m an author of inspirational true stories in 4 books and a teacher of classes I created But my money came from being a private caregiver, social worker, counselor, and manager I’m creative because I have to be who I am I love it and I followed my dreams I never needed to be famous Three part time jobs served me well Comment from : @carolynjaynes9094 |

I found myself nodding to every word Dr Peterson was saying in this video The curse of creativity lies in the challenge of learning to structure your thinking to allow for your creative flow to run through leading to a tangible item people can enjoy, learn from or consume Thank you Dr Peterson! This video has touched upon a common disadvantage that I come across in my daily thinking Comment from : @coachrazankilani5092 |

As a creative person what should I do I love making videos, movies and stuff but I am now going into engineering and astronomy because I really love that too my interests switch rapidly my potential identities (what I wanna be like ) also switch Should I suppress it or find a way to channelize it into my academics because im feeling hopeless Comment from : @harshjoshi014 |

Technology has allowed creativity to be monetized much more easily than before A modern day Picasso cam use a computer to design something the market actually demands It's the best time for creativity in modern-day Comment from : @thegenghiskhan3587 |
|
|
Why does creation have to happen only to an end — why is it so important for us to learn to monetize the ‘product’ of our creation? Well, what if I don’t have a physical product? Maybe it’s an idea, a creed - I want to read all the important books, watch all the important movies, discover all the relevant artists, so that in the end I can let their art course through me and change me, so I myself can become a product of these people’s discoveries about the world and what it means to be human I just want to know as much as I can so I can learn and polish my character, become the best version of myself, and through bettering myself, I can actually change the world simply by existing and interacting with other people in my lifebrWhy can’t creation just be THIS?? Why does everything have to be capitalized on? Since when is making money more important than changing the world? Comment from : @Youtube1sucks |
|
|
I’ve got to say… I hit BIG in my field of work I got a highly coveted creative position professionally in my field of art… and it’s funny because sometimes I look for ways to get out (even though I’m not starving and can pay all of my bills I could make triple my salary with a more “sensible” job)… but the more I do it and less focus I give to myself creatively, the more I wilt mentally (like that tree he talks about)brbrThis advice is spot on… and the Curse of Creativity is absolutely right You’ve gotta made peace with it one way or another Comment from : @and_were_just_supposed_to_4110 |

So fucking true ive drawn my whole life so much so especially in highschool that after i dropped out looking for a way to enhancing my skills for a job or either getting any sort of enjoyment out of doing a job with my skills I completely fell flat so now i have 2 plus decades of knowledge with no help and nobody to keep me going except myself and it’s literally miserable having to fight the struggle of daily health and living and trying to keep my passion and my only grounding for purpose in life, in a sustaining cycle Comment from : @bluelobster246 |

I have a patent Cost me $11,000 Didn't make a penny off of it I wrote a book Collecting dust in my computer I published a children's book Cost me $4,000 Sold ten Thank G-d I also have a profession that paid the bills He's not discouraging you, he's showing the stark reality of thing you creativity, or talent, is something you can readily market Comment from : @wolfbenson |

What this guy is saying about creating products is literally my issue I have all the ideas but there's so much other issues that come with getting those products out Now I have to wait till I'm rich to fulfill my dreams of bringing my ideas to life I'm not interested in having investors bring my ideas to life either I do it with my own money or not at all Comment from : @originalgoldengoddess |

Wow this guy is telling truth bombs It's like when I hear people say "everyone is a genius" we all know that is not true If everyone was a genius the world would not be in this terrible terrible state that it's in right now!!! Comment from : @originalgoldengoddess |

I don’t know what I should dobrI’m studying in physics in a good university But it’s absolutely horrible I don’t think it’s meaningful and growing up I’ve been just an artist and musician I thought I’m talented and people said that toobrBut Jordan said we need to find a way to keep us living, so I just think maybe it’s for me to grow up and cut it and become an engineer and one day probably I’ll get out of this hell and do what I find meaningful Comment from : @tjulers |
