Sorry to see you blow through the 6II and 7II updates so fast Comment from : Woody Bear |
I can only assume that below 1/25th of a second at 25p, that the camera is lowering the frame rate Can you set the minimum shutter in auto mode? Comment from : Gethin Coles |
Any reason you cannot find any explanation on what Z6ii7ii 140 update will translate to? Nothing but Z9 info from you and your ambassadors There’s a lot more of us than Z9 owners Just a obvious suggestion Comment from : Me and motorcycle’s |
Fingers crossed on the Z6/7 II firmware Comment from : Mark Shirley |
Matt! I just ordered the Zed 9!! I ordered from a small local camera shop and apparently I am second in line!! I’m so stoked Comment from : Erichramone78 |
Thanks Matt I appreciate your detailed information and updates Good luck on your move to your new studio Best wishes and lots of continued success 👀 😎 📷 👍 Comment from : Joel Kleiner |

thanks for the shout Matt Comment from : Seth Miranda AKA Last Witness |

Great for Z9 owners I love when companies put out really substantial firmwares that totally change the camera, it really makes you feel rewarded for brand loyalty, like when BMD changed the whole game with the BRAW firmware update brbrAs a new Z6ii owner after seeing the Z9 news and hearing there was also a Z6ii update I got really excited at the possibility of getting internal N-RAW Being a 14 update there's hope for something similar in a potential 20 for the Z6ii/Z7ii series It would be amazing to have a little more control over the color pipeline (without adding external recorders) instead of relying on Nikon's profilesbrbrIf Nikon added internal N-RAW (provided the codec is something like BRAW and not a total flop) to the 6 and 7 it would catapult those models to instant cult status Based on what they've done with the Z9 it certainly seems possible They would have the amazing photo capabilities and lose the compromise on video that sends so many to Canon, Sony and Panasonic (almost myself included) It would be great if Nikon rewarded the loyalists that dealt with years of them neglecting video hahaha Comment from : Chris |
Firmware 20 worth waiting for Comment from : John Valean Baily |
Matt, did you hear or read something on Nikon's APS-C future? I would be interested in a significant advancement of the Z 50 Something like an APS-C flagship Comment from : Hans Schlerith |
Can’t believe the stuff they’ve updated Comment from : Ash Bash Sneakers |
14:07, that would be nice in combination having ⅙ stops on manual shutter speed and aperture dials 😅 Comment from : Roland Rick |
8:54, can’t wait for that a20 high fps, paired with C1 and C2 focus area Panning (fast flying) birds in flight (like mallards, common terns and so) is with current refresh rate quite difficult, specially with long lenses, let’s say 400mm and longer Comment from : Roland Rick |
Matt I just received my Z9 and love it, am so happy thanks for your support! Comment from : michael |
And don't forget there's also a new CFexpress card made by Nikon, probably made for the Z9😆 Comment from : Andy Fong |
Great video as always, Interesting that Nikon should be the first full frame manufacturer to adopt some of these features like focusing zone options and the capture of images before and after shutter activation Both of these have been Olympus/ OM Systems features for a few generations now I believe Olympus calls this "Pro Capture" only difference being Olympus does this in RAW I wonder if Nikon might also have a version of "Live Bulb" in the pipeline Comment from : Blue Serpent Media |
Disappointing upgrade for the z6ii, with so many asked changes and features Comment from : Carlos André Viana |
Self satisfaction between few customers will keep dying lazy Nikon alive ? I doubt 🧐 Comment from : Being Wild |
Excellent news, thanks! Comment from : Dominic Lester |
On the Z9 br- still no d4 Exposure delay mode? (for Astro, Studio, etc) 😞br- still no 5-digit for the image numbering (needed because of the higher framerates) 😞br- Which of the "officially compatible" Cf-Express card are recommended and don't get to hot? Comment from : Roman har |
Z5 update? Comment from : Mrcina |
Nikon have lost the plot, their strategy of only concentrating on the z9 is going to bite them in the back Comment from : Airtime |
Nikon has all the Z9 owner (waiting for their Z9) very excited with the new firmware But if you own other Nikon mirrorless cameras, we feel left out!!!!!!!! Yes their is an firmware upgrade for the Z6II/Z7II, but no one has mention what the improvements this brings to the camera Nikon has become one camera company, so sad Comment from : Cesar M |
'Effing amazing update Nikon hit it out of the park Had I not sold my Z9 for the R3 I may have held off until R1 comes out 20 firmware addresses several of concerns/unknowns I had (around video capabilities and NLE support), and definitely didn't see this big of an update this soon The other vendors better be paying attention to Nikon -- Nikon has raised the bar for what firmware update means Except for weight and ergo (in terms of what fits me best), Z9 is damn near perfect camera for the moment and I'm very happy for loyal Nikon shooters who are finally getting their day in the sun, including Matt :-) Comment from : Roland Ayala |
i’m not seeing 14 for z7ii online yet are they meant to be available now? Comment from : Tobias Bateman |
Nice overview of the new Z9 update Look forward to when you install and demo what can be done with it Expecting an epic video 😊 Regards the gallery: 😢 Best wishes going forward to you and Marc Comment from : MuveeNubee |
a huge update which will make a already amazing camera so much better, I watched Ricci's review yesterday it was a wow moment Comment from : Blythe Warland |
Hi Matt, Pre-release burst is the same as in Nikon 1 J1 back in 2011 but small size of 10MP, new for Z9, I will love it if I get hold of the camera Comment from : cheetahkid |
140 sounds like another Nikon joke to all us, poor non-z9 camera owners Comment from : dice kolev |
nice jacket matt Comment from : سامي البليهي |

Great Vid Matt -- and yes 20 is exciting particularly for Vid shooters But there seems to be something for me toobrRecall Hold is going to be special As are the vastly increased programmable prefocus options brThe return of letterbox options is very useful, prefocus programming is grand to brLong exposure timer is really helpful; as is the ability to "even-dimmer" the EVF/Rear ScreenbrAnd for those rare occasions when I will use 120fps pre-burst will be a helpful safety net I did once and it got me the inside cover - capturing that special moment is cool Will I allocate one button to recall hold 120 fps to this setting? I'm running out of buttons!!brOne wonders what the note: "Further, autofocus stability, tracking performance and subject detection in low-light have been improved" will mean in practice brYes I have to be patient and we will all find out what this means in practice BIF and subject finding tracking in cluttered environments would be a help - but only so much is possiblebrbrAs someone with normal human eyes I have always wonder way anyone (gamers) needs an EVF with a 120fps refresh rate The language in the press release sound like the write was embarrassed to have had to respond to "so many whiners" demanding better EVF For the rest of we simple don't need to turn this onbrLooks like the new grip connects via the USB port ---- well the impact of that if true needs to be considered Comment from : Andy Miller Photo UK |
I've been searching for new z62 updates Lol, just looked yesterday Comment from : melochesyndrome |
Thanks for this comprehensive and passionate commentary on the upcoming firmware Comment from : Alessandro Tortora |
It takes about 6 minutes to 6 minutes and a half to update! 😀 Comment from : eric laquerre |
Thanks Matt wow wow wow can’t wait to update y z9,not that I need to but hopefully now leave soothsayer in the dust 🤩👍😊 Comment from : Paul Hab |
The Z9 has only been on the market for 6 months and 20 firmware is already available, and the Z6II / Z7II is available from October 2020 and only 14 firmware OK not the same class of camera, but Nikon show a little more that you care about the owners of the Z6II / Z7II Comment from : stmarko_ |
I think Ricci knows whats coming up next but he’s not telling HOw many munths he had the 800mm before teling up? Comment from : Jeffrey S |
new updates on hitler's birthday stay classy nikon Comment from : Recreational Plutonium |
Update 20 is for people who can afford the cost of a z9 that is outrageous, while for the owners of a z7ii all they do is laugh in the face and "force" you to move to the z9 if you want real firmware improvements I should consider selling my z7ii and moving on to another brand that really takes care of its users and gives a better approach Comment from : Ortzi Omeñaka |
SO Nikon and nothing firmware for Z6/7 II Disappointed Comment from : richard gorski |
Love the background, Matt I’m so over YouTubers with RGB lights in the background Sooo 2021 Comment from : Andrew Mason |
Thank you for the video It would be great to always provide links to the videos of others you reference I am familiar with Ricci but not the other gentleman you refer to Would consider these links a common professional curtesy Comment from : Steven Waldstein |
They skipped the Z5 and Z50 Also wanted the 8k 60p for the Z6 I’ve always thought of the Z6 as just an upside down Z9 🙃 Comment from : Alex V |
Not a 20 upgrade for the Zxii… Really not sure what to think about… 🤔🤔 Comment from : Skye PRF |
Has there been another Z7ii firmware update since 131 ? Comment from : tectorama |
Matt Again a superb presentation sir! I too am really looking forward to the experience of these added features!! Comment from : Ronald Pollard |
Motion Blending might be a feature that will put me over the edge to get a Z9 Need to ponder Comment from : Ron Boe |
These updates are quite impressive in the first dew months The Z9 is already great value for money compared to the competition and now it's even better value for money! Great stuff! Comment from : Yamen Zein |
almost a great video - cut the fat a little - streamline more! You are more entertained in making this than most are in watching it good content - too long wandering between points - cheers! Comment from : SVA1 |
update is so big that Nikon can call this camera Z9II Comment from : Jaspreet Singh |
That hardware handle control looks like a fantastic addition I wonder if any other brands have something like that I'm not a serious video shooter but If I were, and I was in the market for a professional camera to shoot video but not the $15K and up types, this remote hand control might just sway me to go with the Z9 I get my Z9 tomorrow from Adorama through NPS, I wonder if my copy will have the 20 v firmware update Since I'm not shooting 8K or even much 4K do you think the pergear CF express lite might work for me? ( mostly fast jpg's for high school sports) I see as the amount of memory increases, so does the write speed Thanks so much Matt, good luck with your new studioTed in Sebastian, Fl Comment from : ted K |
One of my interests, which I wrote to Nikon about, is the ability to have a "toggle on/off" ability, so we don't have to hold extra buttons down So, I'm happy to see that implemented in "Recall shooting functions" Nikon is listening to us, and firmware upgrades like this are hugely welcome Comment from : Mike James |
I think a lot of people are going to be disappointed with the Z6 II and Z7 II updates Since it is updating to 14 and not a very major change while the Z9 which has been out for only a few months is getting such a major update People may be thinking that Nikon is only caring about the expensive Z9 Comment from : Mark Adkins |
Hmmm looks like the z6Ii and z7ii updates seem like little more than a footnote Sadly Comment from : Michael Malo drums |
"So come on down, everything is half price" - me, living in Germany XD Comment from : Jonas |
The capabilities of the Z9 with the new update are simply mind-blowing I really celebrate Nikon retaking its position at the top of the heap! But with my own work hardly any of these capabilities are useful to me I developed my skills working with a Pentax K1000, just like you! And my first digital was the D70, just like you! I don't need all these features As a matter of fact they just confuse me But I am still impressed, no question of that Comment from : Scott Weaver PhotoVideo |
Hello Matt, first I hope your move goes will The news about the fermware looks interesting Keep well, keep safe and good luck in all your endeavours Comment from : John Hughes |
Matt have there been any reports that the AF-C is stickier now? Comment from : Hank Dinardo |
I am looking forward to the RSF hold That means a lot Having to hold the button when jumping from 10 or 15 fps to 20 and into 3D Comment from : Gr1ff1D0 |
Matt seems to be a really good update that will make the camera better, so it's cool with this update for all Nikon Z9 users!brCheersbrJess Comment from : Jess Demant Aggeboe |
Come on dude the token Z7ii update is a joke what do these two processors do in this iteration? Comment from : Danial Gowans |
