Actually, if you zig-zag up a hill (as opposed to going straight-up the hill), you can artificially "lower" the gradient and make it more manageable Not that you still need this Comment from : Harry Potter |

Katie, I recently discovered your YouTube videos I find them very inspiring, thank you so much for doing them I have a question You mention different countries that you cycle in, do you break down and pack your own bike or do you rent bikes at your destination?brbrI would love to do more international cycling but have this fear of ruining my bike trying to break it down and putting it back together brThanks Comment from : thepeaks4000 |
Last year i did my first rapha festive I had a bike accident three weeks before (a dog crossed my way), i hurt my right hand, my right knee and my ribcage So There weeks before i could not really hold my handlebar, could not paddle accurately and breathing was complicated I said to myself, you've nothing to loose, so i started here in German winter and it was such a great experience Maybe without the accident, i wouldn't have been so carefully with my body Thank you for sharing your experiences with us Comment from : Rolf Fuchs |

I love how you say that 60K is a short ride That was a milestone for me I started riding 5k to work up a huge hill and it was exhausting I am old and out of shape (45) I just did 70K for the first time yesterday - my legs are aching today - but it was manageable My goal is 100K by the end of August 2020 Looks like it will be doable, considering the rapid increase in distance I have managed over two to three weeks Love it! Comment from : Peter Waldvogel |
Thanks Katie, I think i ended following the same pattern as you did So far, its great! Cheers Comment from : Venkat Gurram |

I'd just like to add my thanks! Your videos are a big help as they show not only your determination and progress but the message that anyone can do it with a little belief and, at the end of the day, it doesn't matter if you don't reach your goal on a particular ride Keep up the videos, and thank you Comment from : Scott Wakefield |

I'm new to your channel so forgive me if you've covered this, but have you ever done turbo trainer work, or high intensity interval training, or has it been purely getting out on the roads? Comment from : LAnonHubbard |
6:54 When you said the 230k ride was flat as a pancake I didn't expect it to be a 1571m elevation gain! Over the distance though, I get what you mean about it being flat My longest ride (4 days ago) is 172km with 881m elevation and I considered that to be a flat ride Comment from : LAnonHubbard |

What's so special in Thailand? I've seen lot of youtube people go there and cycling Comment from : Luka Nyan |
Why I've shared this with my wife is not because you're a female raid cyclist because she's not, because you've done long distances, because that's not what she wants to do, because you travel with your bike because that's not on her wish list, but because you cycle just to have fun, you've improved by doing it not caring about whether you succeed or not the first time, and mostly because you've developed confidence in your abilities by your eventual successes Congrats and thank you Comment from : Julian Rickards |
The video does not show you being "nervous" Comment from : Arctic Hare |
Good on ya Girl ,, I'm on a similar nervous challenge,, I want to increase my distance and slight climbs ,, male 54 ad heart attack 9 months ago ,, stent fitted and on tablets to reduce heart beat , blood pressure etc but I like cycling and always have ,,, so like your journey I'm on a nervous unknown ,,time in my life with several fears,, want to improve but don't want to kill myself take care chin up ,, and keep with ur good progress ,,, Shane uk 🇬🇧 Comment from : shaneweightman |
Its just a bike ride I like that I get intimidated by distances, but have done off road trail quests for 5 hrs If I had been on the road bike for the same distance I might have done some viable mileage But yeah Its just a bike ride I will try that Thanks Comment from : MuppetAlex1 |
Well, it goes without sayingthat seats too high Comment from : K B |
Good advice i wish i had been sensible enough to be patent and careful this year I had a goal this year of riding a 200 mile ride So my first goal was to complete a 100 mile ride before the end of March so i was basically starting from my previous best from the year before however due to the poor weather i was not able to do enough training really Went out at the end of march for the 100 mile ride anyway completed it but with considerable pain in my right leg that turned out to be a proper injury and has ended up with me having almost 2 months off the bike unable to ride This weekend was the first time i have been back on the bike for a short careful ride I expect it will be another month or more of these sorts of rides before i can start getting back to normal training again So because of one stupid decision made out of impatience the whole summer of riding building upto the goal i had been looking forward to is potentially lost I have enjoyed a lot more walking though because of this so its not all bad Comment from : James Carson |
Hey Katie, Thanks for sharing your story, i am 62 and only took cycling up 9 months ago I have my first 100 klm ride in 3 weeks and I am scared to death, but after your story I feel much better, after all "it's just a bike ride" Thanks Comment from : Norman Dean |

I'm 65 and a double organ transplant recipient ( Liver and Kidney ) I started riding June 30th 2017, my first ride was 35 km And I was exhausted by the end of August I completed a flat 32 km I purchased a new bike and have lost 11 kg and just finished a 51 km ride I still have a problem with my legs screaming at me when doing hills Is there something I'm missing or do I need to just keep powering through the pain?
