Even though I’m not around the parent that creates the wnmeshmwnt whenever I am again I feel triggered by the enmeshmwnt she does again- like if I say I’m feeling a certain way she feels that way, if I hit my head she says ouch It’s so crazy and makes me feel horrible because it had such terrible effects I My life That was only one part of some real dysfunction but I’m just not sure how to manage it when I’m around her even if it’s for a little time To me it feels like she feels like (or projects, or wants me to be) incapable so she can be wanted and needed or just for survival sake when we went through really hard times after my father left she got in this habit of thinking behaving and acting like we were one person even though I was having to go through so much hardship she felt she was advocating for me by literally taking me as a person on as herself It’s so hard and confusing and most of it comes from her so I really don’t know what to do about it or what my part is since I’ve been the passive recipient and victim of so much of this stuff I can’t change her behavior but how do I protect myself and how do I separate and affirm my own boundaries and independence from her I feel like getting upset about what she’s doing just feeds it more

I am looking for advice on how to help my son His father is a toxic person There has been much enmeshment as well as verbal abuse We share custody so he is with Dad half the time My son, now 14, has been in therapy and our family communication has improved as well as emotional regulation issues I hope to offer small adjustments in order to foster healthy development My son is also on the ASD
