@vipervectorwx3
I just purchased certified pre-owned vehicle from Stockton Hyundai Auto Center located in Stockton Ca I wish I would have seen this video beforehand The add-on that they stuck me with is the Starguard Thieft Deterrent for $1,695 I refused to pay for it but they were very adamant and told me it was mandatory After keeping us there for hours and it being a long drawn out process we were drained My dad had a better credit score so we put it in his name so when I reviewed the paperwork it said it was optional Do you have any questions/comments/tips to get the difference back, would appreciate it thank you br From Noah

A dealership recently tried to sell me a used car for $36K (not including taxes), even though the car was on True Car for $30K They claimed the additional cost was for dealer add-ons that couldn't be removed because the work was completed already I didn't want to waste any more time, so I left

I really appreciate your videos! I recently bought a 2023 used Crosstrek and was very disappointed to be told by the salesman that everyone who bought a car from Tucson Subaru had to pay $175 for Theft Shield Etching After the sale, emboldened by your videos, I emailed the sales manager asking if it wasn't illegal to force me to pay for vin etching Tucson Subaru had sold the car to the first owner and the first owner would also have had to pay for etching How many times could the car get etched? Her response was vin etching wasn't a mandatory fee and "The cost of the Principal Theft shield is not for the physical etch itself It's for the policy and benefits it provides if your vehicle were stolen We do not get compensated more than once and it is not the same policy sold to multiple guests If you don't find value in the policy, I'd be more than happy to cancel the warranty and refund your money" Basically she implied I was wrong, lying or crazy when I said I was forced to pay for that add-on and it was for some mysterious after-theft benefit, not etching at all I said I wasn't interested in the etching or tracking from the etching and please mail me a check refunding the cost of the add-on I am pleased to report I received a check from Tucson Subaru for $19022 for "cancel etch" This dealership also attempted to sell me an extended warranty plan with an interesting feature, I would get to pay for 8 years, including one year that was in the past, the year before I bought the car

I ordered a BMW i4 from BMW of Birmingham AL in September 2021 I picked it up in June 2022 Paid cash They thought I was going to be financing with them and when I told them it was a cashier's check for the whole thing, the salesman came out and said I had to pay theft protection and perma plate (paint protection) plus doc fees for a total of $143350 I told them I didn't want any of that, but they said it was mandatory from corporate When I went in the finance guy's office, he held firm that this is mandatory Later, I emailed him about it and he still held firm About 2 weeks later, I called him on a Saturday and told him I was going to the state Attorney General's office about this He said he wasn't the guy to talk to but would go get the GM for the site Within about 5 minutes, he called me back and I told him how it all went down He said there were "protections in place" to keep this from happening, but I somehow slipped through They sent me a check for the theft protection and the perma plate, and I was ok with that but should have held out for the doc fees too The doc fees were $68950

The finance guy at Whiteoak Ford in Mississauga, Ontario tried to pull this one on me a few years ago He claimed I could only get a 1٪ lower interest rate if I also purchased a suite of protection packages Thanks to you guys, I saw right through it I took the higher rate without the protection, went to my bank the next day and got a 2 cheaper line of credit to pay off the dealer loan

@ronj9124
Maybe I am being a little dense here If the car has something like a pinstripe added to it, how do you get the charge removed? Do they actually remove the pinstripe, or do you try to pay nothing more than the dealer cost?brbrThanks for the great video, and I wish you all continued good health!

I recently bought a new Honda last month and I just said NO to the sales pitch for an extended warranty which was something like over $2000 !!! , I said No to GAP insurance as I put $10,000 down so my payments will be less per month and got 29 for 5 years Overall it was a very easy process , a smaller mom and pop Honda dealer as I hate dealing with the big dealership chains in which owners are multimillionairs I suggest for people to shop and buy at non chains dealerships to save more $$ I drove one hr from my home to buy a new Honda but it was weill worth it

@jeeper360
I got hit once and my daughter once too For me, it was in 2010 at Smith Ford in Conway, AR I picked out a car and filled out all of the paperwork I was told that the only way I could be approved was to add a maintenance plan as well The second was at Caldwell Toyota also in Conway in 2021 They charged her for nitrogen in the tires because it was already in there
Comment from : @jeeper360

@jeremyb5344
i love your vidoes and i definitely have learned something, sadly i had to get a car, and i found something i liked, its a lease and although i have really good credit, i had to use the bank that the dealers use, i think i got the worst interest rate, but after doing the math it still made sense to lease instead Less the 4 weeks later there was a hug dip in the rates and i got an email to make me aware! that they screwed me
Comment from : @jeremyb5344

@tomstoeckle
I had the opposite experience at Earl Stewart Toyota I received an emailed OTD price including title and taxes (no fees or add ons) When we went to pick up the car, the buyers order matched the email quote to the penny Did not buy any optional coverages or warranties

@RickJohnson
In 1999 - Raceway Ford in Riverside, CA forced an extended warranty w/ a better interest rate AND performed a spot delivery on my 1999 Ford Contour SVT I got a call/letter a few days later stating that the original financing had fallen through (surprise surprise, I was 23 with maybe 5 years of credit history) and that I'd need to resign at a higher interest rate It was a niche, numbered production car that they knew I wanted (they already had my trade), so I felt trapped by the situation Looking back, half of the shady stuff they pulled wouldn't have been kosher today

Thank you for your excellent videos Does illegality of Tied Selling apply to manufacturers? Every Lexus ES available on dealer lots is sold with installed options on Monroney Label Is it legal for manufacturers to make options mandatory? I tried to factory order a Lexus ES 350 without options from my local Lexus dealership, Fresno Lexus; but it refused to order one
Comment from : @NSX1821

@deserttrainguy3235
Take the time to search for a dealer who won't add anything you don't want, nor will they charge over MSRP If the car hasn't arrived at the dealer yet, you have room to negotiate to make sure nothing is added other than what the manufacturer added As for the finance office, just watch the videos by the Homework Gal If you do that, when you enter the finance office, they will know you will not stand for any add-ons nor any BS at all
Comment from : @deserttrainguy3235

CJDR OF Leesburg Florida has interesting markup for used cars Adjusted price for use cars 2,98800, Doc fee 1,198, Non tax fees 1,20885brThe RAV4 was 20,295 with all the markup ended up at 27,208 That is Florida for you

@rickl7604
I haven't bought a new car in a few years, but one of the things I have seen and worked around was the notorious practice of adding pinstripes It is usually a few hundred dollars for about $1 of actual material I tell them that I don't want it and won't pay for it I give them the option to remove it which they never do since that would cost even more labor They always deduct the cost of the pinstriping
Comment from : @rickl7604

@brucegallay1994
Kevin, great video as always but I have a couple of questions:br"Tied Selling" does it only apply to Dealer Installed Options or does it also apply to Port and or Factory Installed Options?brIf the dealer won't budge and will let you walk is this a reportable offense and if so, to who? Thanks Look forward to your reply
Comment from : @brucegallay1994

@jscatt6123
Another sneaky tactic is when you ask for the out the door price on paper they will inflate the MSRP and tell you it’s the actual MSRP from the manufacturer, always ask for copy of the window sticker so you can verify exactly what options the vehicle is coming out of the factory with or what port installed options it will have and if they are adding a market adjustment fee
Comment from : @jscatt6123

@michalmazur7900
Allen Chevy Cadillac Monroe Michigan would not sell us brand new truck without Allen Care product package for $1617 Dealer is 15 hours away, we asked several times for any hidden fees or charges and buyers order before we got there and they said accept GM pricing, doc fee $260 and taxes Nothing about all other crap they put on/offered Being that far away, we could/wouldn't use most of these services, like half off oil changes and shuttle services I will try to attach that Allen care package to this reply Avoid them
Comment from : @michalmazur7900

@michalmazur7900
Walked away from the deal because of it They didn't disclose it, after 15 hour drive and them not backing off mandatory care package $1617 for garbage add on Walk away and let others know they do it Social media works great
Comment from : @michalmazur7900

@enoynaert
I have gone an even more aggressive route and it worked for me There were already some dealer packs on the car I said that in my opinion the addons reduced the value of the vehicle to me I didn't like the pinstripe The rustproofing can accelerate rusting if it plugs drain holes I not only got them to take off the charges, but I was able to use the fact that the car was worth less to me in order to get a price below MSRP

Comment from : @markrichards4042

@OldSchoolBowler
Are you saying that forcing a customer to buy a Protection Package when they buy a car is illegal? This is a very common practice at dealerships here in Florida Lokey Subaru in Port Richey, Florida requires that you purchase their Lokey Protection Package for $3,85000 on every vehicle when you buy a car from them This package includes the usual BS such as "nitrogen infused tires" and "clear door edge guards" I can't find a Kia dealership that DOESN'T have a mandatory protection package Also, Don Mealey Sport Auto Group (two dealerships in Orlando) charges a $35000 "variable loan processing fee" if you DON'T use their financing, even if you pay in cash! How can that be legal? And they have the nerve to boast on their website that they have "no dealer fees" at all If any of this is illegal, please tell me how to go about reporting these criminals, because there sure are a lot of them in Florida Thans, and keep up the good work!
Comment from : @OldSchoolBowler

@tonebonebgky2
Leachman Buick GMC sold me a SUV before the pandemic with warranty added in but I didn't see it until afterword and when I went back to remove it later on they told me that it was "added by the bank to protect their investment and cannot be cancelled" of course I would watch out for this and the last time I bought a (new) car from them I told them I was afraid of finance managers (not far from the truth) and I didn't want to talk to one😂 they completed the transaction without the finance manager and they did talk me into the gap coverage but I thought it might be a good idea and it was because even after almost 1½ years I'm still upside down (cars are such a scam) though that may be changing soon and if it does I'm asking for the rest of my gap back(about $25k under compared to almost $4k at the beginning of the loan), I want another car (found out that mine is a little bit too small) but at current prices and considering the rates I've been scared off from dealing with car lots and dealers for now although I'm monitoring and the situation is slowly getting better
Comment from : @tonebonebgky2

@gb1375
I recently experienced this at Subaru of Ann Arbor They added $2302 for "accessories," and $1095 for Gap When I asked about the accessories they stated $902 was non negotiable for a lifetime powertrain warranty $1400 was for an internal/external 5 year warranty, which the fine print indicated was for nitrogen inflation and treatment with Repell On the sheet with pricing and financing, I found the actual cost of the car before interest, would be over $32,000, which is greater than the MSRP price for a 2024 model from a different dealer It pays to be willing to drive, even a 40 minute trip NE out of AnnArbor brings you to a dealership that doesn't raise prices beyond MSRP, and should they attempt add ons, I now know better how to deal with extras that are actually minuses to my finances
Comment from : @gb1375

hi, guys i'm in Cleveland ohio ive had my car from auto world Mitsubishi for a little over a year now I just recently found out I had a service contract that I was obviously coerced into signing because I was never given any paperwork for the contract I was able to find out who it was through because it says complete auto care on my RISC and the actual service contract, but they go by NVP that name isn't even on ANY of the ppw

@markrichards4042
Back in 2011, Ford had a 100k warranty for $2350 In the contract, it was fully refundable, minus $75 admin fee, if not used in the 100k period Had two bigger repairs on my Explorer Transaxle boot repair and a transfer case repair, at 65k and 82k miles Both repairs together were less than $1000 They tried to use the warranty both times and I told them no The Transaxle repair at 82k was around $550 I specifically told them not to use the warranty and they did it anyway I told the cashier to get the service manager in and they reluctantly changed it They are assholes I traded the vehicle shortly after 100k and it took 6 weeks to get my money back But I was elated to hear they lost their ass on that deal

@Rockinthehill
I've bought a lot of cars and several times the dealers F&I office forced me to buy added paint protection that I didn't want I pointed out that on the contract it said "You are not required to purchase this product to purchase the vehicle" and he said "yes you do" We had waited for several months for this car to be sent from Korea so we succumbed to this tactic Should I have reported this to the FTC?
