I'm apparently missing something, but it appears to me that with the compound sitting at an angle, using it (the compound) to adjust the depth of the next cut would change the relative position of the cutter with the piece being threaded

It's been 46 years since I took machine trades in high school but I just bought a Clausing 5902 that was phased out 2 years ago from a local school It's been sitting outside in a shed so I'm starting a rebuild on it I would like to say thank you for "jogging" the old brain cells awake and reminding me how to do so many things I had forgotten You Clausing videos are a God send

Thank you Tubalcain Say for instance on an internal or external thread, you nut goes on and its loose, or if won' t go on because it's too bighow do you know how much stock to start with above an beyond to start the process? Ie If you doing a 1/2" bolt with 22 tpi, how much larger stock over that 1/2" do you leave to start the threading process?

With the speed that slow, and the undercut that large, could you just stop the chuck rotation and reverse instead of disengaging the feed? Like on a Chinese lathe with no feed dial Forward-stop-in003-reverse-in 003-repeat

Ok So I would make the threads in sections at a time along the length? Not sure how the follower would provide the proper support necessary as the thread is being formed Is there a follower that works on the thread that I don't know about? Even as in depth chapter ten is South Bend's, "How to Run A Lathe", I didn't see reference to this dilemma Thank you for all your help

Question: How would go about to thread a 32" long screw thread? Say for example an acme thread for a milling cross table? I would think at about half way, the tool would be flexing the work Would you recommend to make the threads in sections? Or, is there something to do with the rest follower?

Do you use the major diameter on the thread scale?
