I know this is older material but I just discovered you Ryan, when I was searching for ways to shit talk the young ones at the gym Just kiddingor am I?brbr Listen Ryan I like your rhythm and shit talk some of its good some of it is sus and sometimes you don't speak through the right orifice At 4:24 you say " Who cares how strong you are" See that shit is ego YOU should care how strong you are, not just how you look, that statement can mean the difference between life and deathbrbr After 40, we as males, even the big stupid ones, start to lose muscle strength at a rate of 1-3 a year If you don't believe me look at the research coming out of Harvard and Standford By the time we are 60 that idea about strength not mattering is going to flip you on your ass and not in a good way By 80, well you can see the path clearly towards full body failure Now I realize I'm not your demographic ( I'm 56) you seem to cater to the younger cats hoping to rip a shirt so Barbie can swoon over their marshmallow dicks and spunk machinebrHowever I will tell you this, "age:, its coming like a freight Train for all of us, so you better train like your life depends on it, because it does brbrAnd finally for all those saying they are "Natty" it didn't work for the Liver King and it ain't working for you eitherbrbr Stay golden old man Comment from : indigogreenstone |

I always lift in the 5-6 rep range for 5-6 sets Sometimes dipping to just 3 reps ,really heavy I usually follow Jeff Cavalier's advice and of course Ryan's advice here on this channel There is some good science here on this channel But Anatoly's channel right here on youtube is proof that strength and size has nothing to do with each other He's an Elite power lifter in a small body that puts mass monsters in check on a regular basis But, I always wondered why I was lifting more weight than the steroid meatheads in the gym and they were so big and I am much smaller than they are I have always been the stocky body type at 6ft and 200lbs My lower body is more powerful than my upper body I have always been that way I believe martial arts training when I was younger helped with that If I stopped eating the burgers I would be 180lbs I am 45 years old, I allow myself to eat what I want within reason I try to stay away from the sugars and carbs I might have a soda or a piece of cake occasionally but not that often Mainly proteins veggies and light carbs But I knew that some people were just stronger generically but I never really understood the difference between strength training and training for mass until now And I think most people don't get it either They just go for what ever is popular Bro splits I do full body workouts 3 times a week for about 3 hours at a time The last day of that week I hit muscles I missed or problem areas And I take long walks on recovery days to speed up recovery times I want to be athletic and strong I want strength, explosive power, and mobility Period I don't just want to look the part I want to be genuinely strong And I don't want to be so big I can't talk on a phone or wipe my own ass I feel like it's a disability to be that big These mass monsters I have never taken steroids a day in my life I believe this is why they die of heart failure Their body gets so big their heart can't sustain the mass And they do "zero" athletic training for conditioning But I was searching for the differences between the two training techniques and this video popped up in my feed Thanks Ryan I have been subbed for a year or two and never seen this video Comment from : Truthbetold |

I started implementing high-weight/low-rep AND medium-weight/medium-rep into almost every single exercise It's much better than periodically changing your workout routine It activates both muscle growth pathways at the same time, which is way better than switching between the two Comment from : MarcoMyWords |

I have done all rep range over the 19 years I have worked out for me personally I feel 10 reps is the best for size and strength Any thing below that I am just testing my strength it does not really help me get stronger thats just the way I feel I pyramid up all my sets are 10 until I get to the last set it may be 8 or 10 or 12 but the goal is to get at least 10 for my max set so I guess you can say reps of 8 to 12 work best for me Maybe its just my body type but low reps has never really worked for me I do them but its more I am just testing to see what weights I can do and it does kind of shock the body but I cant stay with low reps and get stronger Comment from : Venom286 |
|
Is there no way of alternating training for muscle growth and power lifting, just incase someone offers me out for a lift off 😅? Great video just subscribed ! Comment from : Rob Nicolson |

You're not a comedian just stick to the facts Comment from : Paul Holland |

It isn't opposite It's just a little different - there's no "weak" bodybuilders, most are just not as strong as they look Muscle size is still proportional with muscle strengthbrWhen you lift heavier weight, you recruit more type II muscle fibers compared to type I and Ix Regional hypertrophy happens, and you gain more strength compared to if you did higher reps brBut you still gain strength on higher reps You still recruit more type II muscle fibers compared to type I and Ix - just not as much, relatively, as with lower repsbrbrIn conclusion: Lower reps incurs more hypertrophy on type II muscle fibers, compared to higher reps But higher reps definitely still make you stronger - just not as much as lower reps Comment from : Lennys Gonna Eat Your Pennys |
|
That's a great video I still not sure how to train thoughbrDo you recommend something like 30 of sets done heavy in the 5-8 rep zone and 70 lighter sets, done in the 10-15 reps?brIs it effective for both inducing hypertrophy and strength gains?brOr would you change the ratio and how? Comment from : Itamar Avraham |
|
There are good channels on weight lifting but this man makes insanely good content Haha the xmass analogy was good I always enjoyed waiting for the build up of things I never cared about instant gratification in any way but I've done both strength and other seasons I've done hypertrophy Comment from : King Wolf |

A bigger muscle is always a stronger muscle, he said it himself, completely contradicting himself Comment from : JTP Adventures |

What if I do two workout sessions each day the first one favoring strength and the second one favoring hypertrophy Wouldn't that mean I can build both simultaneously just by training them separately Or maybe not doing both the sessions on the same day and hitting every muscle group twice a week one session favoring hypertrophy and another favoring strength Comment from : Triton |
