DISCLAIMER: I title these kinds of "long training talks kinds of videos' very specifically to my best PR times (times that I may never improve upon honestly as this one happened almost exactly 10 years ago!) But I do video titles like "How to run a sub 14:30 5km" or "how to run a sub 30-minute 10km" over the years because I know specific details make for good YouTube titles I also know that most of you are simply looking to improve upon (or finish your first half marathon) time or experience distance running Maybe you're looking to crack 2 hours or 1:45 or 1:30 for a half marathon? Maybe you already run 1:02 though and are finishing way ahead of me! In any case racing and training for distance races is hard no matter what your specific time goal or PR is - going the distance is already hard enough and an amazing accomplishment! What I hope with these talks is that you can see a bit "behind the training process flow" and see how different kinds of workouts (from Tempo Intervals to Long Runs and aerobic based training) can help improve your fitness and speed over time Maybe you can learn from some of my past training and racing mistakes as well (or at least just laugh at me 🤣!) In any case, keep up the great work, thanks for following along, and hope your running is going well #AnySurfaceAnyDistance ! Comment from : Vo2maxProductions |

Sadly, half marathon performance is largely a matter of genetics An average runner can improve maybe 5 or 10 with training, but your speed and efficiency is largely out of your hands Comment from : Richard Sessa |

Hey if any of you see this can you answer this for me? I’m training for a sub 1:30 half I’m a relatively new runner I did treadmill work for 2 years and now the past 3 months I started running on the road and love it My mile PR aid 5:28 So anyway I did a max heart rate test got 205 bmp and I’m following the Pfitzinger 31-47 plan and I can run a 8:00 min mile at 190 bpm and can hold that for a while but it’s not my aerobic zone when I train aerobically I have to run at a 10:00 min mile to stay under 175 bpm Is this normal? Comment from : Z123 |

Hi Sage, discovered your YouTube videos a few weeks ago Love the detail you go into, not so convinced by the music intros haha Couldn't help but smile at a comment in your training log about the 104 actual race 'Lost 2 seconds at the start' Absolutely the level of detail I'd expect in a serious runners log If you're still considering it, good luck qualifying for the Olympic trials Comment from : Ian Walker |
